Oscar Collazo scrambles for opponent after Canoy visa snag

Unified minimumweight champion Oscar Collazo is hunting for a replacement opponent after Filipino challenger Joey Canoy's visa troubles torpedoed Saturday's DAZN main event in Oceanside, California.

The WBO confirmed the withdrawal Tuesday night, according to Bad Left Hook, leaving the undefeated Puerto Rican with a shrinking window to salvage the card. Miguel Cotto Promotions reportedly requested that former title challenger Luis Castillo step in, but Fernando Barbosa reports Castillo also lacks the necessary visa to enter the United States on such short notice.

Collazo looking at quickest turnaround since 2023

Collazo (14-0, 11 KO), widely regarded as the top fighter at 105 pounds and a fringe pound-for-pound entry, was aiming for his fastest turnaround in three years. He last fought in March, stopping Jesus Haro on the undercard of Golden Boy's Arnold Barboza Jr.-Kenneth Sims Jr. show.

Finding a credible fill-in on 72 hours' notice is an uphill climb for Cotto Promotions, particularly at minimumweight. With no lighter division to draw from, the pool of available opponents who can make weight and hold a valid visa is thin.

The promotion has not announced whether the card will proceed with a substitute or be postponed. Collazo's team is reportedly working the phones, but time is running out.
