McGregor Still Wants The Diaz Trilogy

In the MMA latest updates, Conor McGregor is hopeful of a trilogy fight with Nate Diaz later down the line.

The ’Notorious’ has been out of the cage since his defeat to Dustin Poirier in 2021. And as part of that process, he broke his leg which has kept him out of action for some time.

Although a comeback was teased this year, McGregor has failed to abide by USADA regulations. The organization requires athletes to submit two negative samples over a six-month period before they can compete.

As of now, there is nothing to suggest that McGregor has done anything of that nature. But in the meantime, McGregor is desperate for the Diaz trilogy.

McGregor Vs. Diaz

Their current rivalry stands at 1-1. Diaz won the first fight in 2016 at UFC 196 when he managed to stop the Irishman in the third round via a rear naked choke.

Although that may have been the case, McGregor managed to get his revenge by winning a majority decision at UFC 202. Nevertheless, Diaz’s future in the UFC is uncertain.

He became a free agent following his win over Tony Ferguson in 2022. Since then, the MMA fighter has had a crossover boxing event with Jake Paul as he suffered a unanimous-decision loss.

In addition, Paul has offered Diaz a rematch in MMA provided that it happens in the PFL. And yet, the fighter has not signed anything in that regard. But for all the offers that were out there, McGregor’s aim was clear.

"It [his fight with Jake Paul] was not great, not great,. ’d like to see him back in MMA. You know I owe him a fight, I owe Nate a fight. So I’ve got to obligate that. He gave me the rematch, I got the better of him, and I owe him the trilogy for sure," McGregor said

McGregor Vs. Chandler

Nevertheless, the Notorious is still keen on fighting Michael Chandler. Their rivalry has been ongoing since they began as coaches on the TUF 31 season.

Chandler managed to get the best of McGregor overall, which is why a fight does offer up an intriguing match-up. McGregor has repeatedly stated that he wants a December return, which can only happen if USADA were to grant the fighter an exemption. But when it came to the UFC CEO, Dana White, the former expected McGregor to comeback sometime in 2024.

"I got nothing on either one of those guys right now. I’ve been saying for awhile, next year is when Conor’s going to fight. And then obviously, if Chandler gets antsy, then we’ll figure something out. I think Chandler’s got a bunch of money, he’s hanging out with family, and when the time is right for the Conor fight, I’m sure that’s the fight he wants. I’m not speaking for him, I’m just saying, I’m assuming," McGregor

Either way, McGregor’s comeback has been teased for a while. Regardless of who he ends up fighting, McGregor’s return will generate a huge audience. So the question remaining is will he come back? Time will tell.
