Ricardo Malajika delivered a one-sided fifth-round stoppage over Jayson Mama, dropping him five times, to retain his IBO Junior Bantamweight Title.

The Fight

After a slow opening round, Malajika began to take control, landing a crisp one-two combination in the second. He backed that up using his steady jab, connecting with solid punches to both the head and body, capping the round off with a sharp right hand. By the third, Malajika dropped Mama with a right hand. He did so once again with another right hand to drop the challenger. Mama was visibly hurt and on the back foot.

Mama tried to respond in the fourth, landing a left hook and right hand, but Malajika’s relentless pressure continued. A left hook followed by a right hand saw Mama down once more. A final knockdown prompted the referee to step in and stop the fight in fifth. Malajika’s dominant performance earned him a statement win. Malajika has previously said he wants to win titles in multiple divisions, as that will be the focus moving forward.

"I want to be five-time world champion, so wherever the opportunity is, I’ll grab it. It’s about sacrifices…I believe he’s (Jesse "Bam" Rodriguez) the best, but he hasn’t fought me yet, so we can’t say he’s the best. I feel like I’m the best [Laughs] The only way to find out is me and him in the ring. Anybody, anybody who wants to fight me, I’m ready, my coach is ready, you can call me 2 hours and say the fight is in one hour and we’ll pick up and be ready to go. Even if it’s a heavyweight," Malajika stated
