Jon Jones Cleared: Misdemeanor Charges Dropped
Jon Jones’ misdemeanor charges from a car accident in Albuquerque, New Mexico, have been dropped.
Jones was accused of "leaving the scene of an accident" and "use of Telephone to Terrify, Intimidate, Threaten, Harass, Annoy or Offend." A woman in the passenger seat of a crashed car alleged that Jones was the driver who fled the scene. An officer also claimed that Jones sounded intoxicated during a phone call with the woman. But the dismissal of charges was filed by the state of New Mexico. In a statement released by his attorney, Christopher Dodd, Jones’ legal team expressed gratitude.

"We have been fully vindicated. From the very beginning, we explained that a woman made a false allegation against Jon in an effort to avoid being arrested for DWI, and unfortunately, the police accepted that claim without properly weighing the facts.
"Once the relevant documents were finally disclosed by the police department, Jon’s cell phone records made it undeniably clear that he was nowhere near the scene of the crash. We are grateful that the district attorney’s office took the time to conduct a full and fair review of this case, which ultimately confirmed Jon’s innocence.
"At the same time, it is deeply troubling that such critical evidence was disregarded, forcing Jon to endure this ordeal unnecessarily. Our investigation into how this occurred remains ongoing," Christopher Dodd (Jones’ attorney)
"Nolle Prosequi comes now, the State of New Mexico and hereby dismisses this matter. After further investigation, the State has reason to believe the defendant’s alibi defense is credible," Joshua D. Boone (Chief Deputy District Attorney)
The resolution of this case could have a direct impact on Jones’ potential return to the UFC. This development could pave the way for a high-profile matchup against a top-tier contender, especially with interim heavyweight champion Tom Aspinall. Jones has reentered the testing pool, giving Dana White a chance to put him on the UFC White House card next year. While White said the odds of that happening were a ‘billion to one," Jones’ innocence has made that a step closer.
