Jake Paul has called out the state of influencer boxing by urging those involved to take the sport seriously. 

Paul has managed to reinvent himself from a Youtuber into a professional boxer. Although the ‘Problem Child’ is often criticised for not fighting professional boxers, it still does take a brave man to put himself in the ring.

And even with Jake’s defeat against the only professional boxer he has faced, Paul managed to go the distance. And in the process, he knocked down Tommy Fury in a split-decision loss. 

But for all the success that may be coming Jake’s way, as shown by another recent mega event as he took on Nate Diaz, the boxer questioned the commitment of his peers during a conversation with Mike Tyson.

Paul: "A lot of them don’t take it super seriously, that’s the problem

Tyson: "Well now that you do, some will. You need to tell everyone.

Paul: "Hey, influencer boxing take it more seriously for real.

"Really lock in, three month camps, training twice a day, everyday, get yourself a serious team.

"Don’t just go in there and pitty-putt around. If you’re gonna do it, do it right."

Despite this being the case, Paul did not do what he had preached. During his last fight with Diaz, Paul failed to stop the MMA star, who was making his boxing debut. 

Although he did drop him in the fifth round, Jake failed to finish the job. But that was precisely what was needed in a sport where one punch can change everything. Tyson’s following comments confirmed as much.

Ultimately, Paul can continue to lead by example to show the influencer scene what is possible.

And as long as Paul continues to attract big crowds with his crossover fights, then that may change the narrative surrounding the fighter. And that can only be a good thing for the sport moving forward.
