Hitchins Looked ‘Drained' For Kambosos Weigh-In

Richardson Hitchins and George Kambosos Jr. made weight ahead of their IBF Junior Welterweight Title fight on June 14, as we look at how both men looked.

Hitchins puts his IBF belt on the line for the first time. He arrives into the fight with a unanimous decision win against Liam Paro, which secured him the belt. The win upset plans for a Paro-Kambosos fight, which would have seen a mega domestic clash between two Australian fighters. Hitchins knows that a win over Kambosos would make him one of the leading names at 140, with a possible fight against the WBO Junior Welterweight Champion, Teofimo Lopez, next.

Kambosos is looking to become a two-weight world champion. He is not in the best form, with two wins from his last fight. However, he made a positive start to his time at 140, beating Jake Wyllie in his last fight. That was Kambosos’ first fight under Matchroom Boxing, marking a new chapter in his career. Hitchins weighed 140 pounds, while Kambosos weighed 139.4 pounds. Devin Haney reacted to the weigh-in, suggesting Hitchins was drained.

Reaction

"He’s [Hitchins] fired up. Both teams are fired up. You’re going to get an incredible night tomorrow night on DAZN. You’re going to get a really high-level fight, a beautiful crossroads fight. I don’t think he does [overlook Kambosos]. It’s like history repeating itself this week. I think Richardson is cool. He’s nice and chilled, but the training team yesterday. It’s fiery.

"There’s a lot of emotion out there, and that’s what George wants. He wants Richardson to stand and fight, and he’s under a little bit of pressure to entertain, to make that statement. That’s dangerous in itself. George is not a top 15 guy. He’s a former undisputed champion, and he’s a very good fighter. He’s a very determined, smart guy.

"He will want Richardson to come and fight, and I think he will tomorrow night. He’s got an opportunity to look good, but he also has got the possibility of defeat. I know Richardson is the favorite, but this is a tough challenge for him. It could really establish himself as a world-class name in the sport," Hearn said
