Eddie Hearn: Zuffa Boxing shut out of Joshua-Fury despite White claims
Eddie Hearn says Zuffa Boxing and Dana White have been contractually excluded from involvement in the Anthony Joshua-Tyson Fury fight, contradicting White's recent public statements that he will be promoting the heavyweight clash.
Hearn told BoxingScene that both fighters signed agreements specifying that he and Frank Warren remain the promoters of record for the bout, with Zuffa locked out. "I don't know what [Fury's contract] says about the venue," Hearn said. "I just know what ours says: That, exclusively, the fight must take place in the U.K."
Fury contract leaves venue open despite Joshua's U.K. requirement
While Joshua's deal mandates a British venue, Fury's signed contract contains no such stipulation, BoxingScene learned. That gap does not mean the superfight will shift to an NFL stadium in the States, but it signals potential renegotiation ahead. White told reporters last week he would be promoting the bout and hinted it might land outside Britain, with Hearn speculating Las Vegas's Allegiant Stadium could be a target and two boxing officials naming SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles as another option.
The contracts tie both men to Saudi financier Turki Alalshikh and events planner Sela — Fury for two tune-ups and the Joshua fight, Joshua for a July 25 bout against Kristian Prenga and then Fury. Alalshikh owns 60 per cent of Zuffa Boxing, the upstart promotional outfit that has drawn cease-and-desist letters from Golden Boy Promotions and DAZN over its expansion tactics.
Fury's next tune-up lands August 1 in Dublin. Joshua weighs in Friday for his own stay-busy bout before the two former champions finally meet.
