Haney And Garcia Resume Negotiations Over A Fight
Ryan Garcia and Devin Haney are reportedly back in negotiations for a fight.
The talks initially broke down as Garcia pulled out in favour of facing Rolando Romero. Those plans never materialized as Romero ended up agreeing to fight Isaac Cruz. Rolly claimed Garcia’s team was trying to make another fight behind his back, while Oscar De La Hoya stated that Romero had priced himself out of a fight.
That left Garcia with question marks over who he would face next. Now it appears he has returned to the table to face Haney, with a significant amount of damage to his reputation. It is not clear if this will harm his leverage in the negotiations, but one thing for sure is that Garcia must avoid repeating the type of negotiations that have gotten him into this position.

Garcia On Haney
“People will be shocked but I will not be shocked and then Devin will be destroyed. His daddy’s gonna have to help him up. I’m telling Bill this. I’m gonna tell him this now. He will have three chances to stop the fight. The first one, if he doesn’t do it then who knows what’s gonna happen. I’m telling you, you’re gonna have three chances to help your son out in the fight. We’re gonna see if you really care about your son,” Garcia said
This naturally begs the question: why did Garcia back out of negotiations in the first place? Ryan made it clear that Floyd Mayweather had influenced him. They were spotted at a shopping mall and then went on a late-night run, after which Garcia withdrew from talks with Haney.
Garcia described it as the better business move, as a win over Romero gave him a world title in what was perceived as a less risky fight. That would then make any fight with Haney even bigger. After having discussed this with Mayweather, Garcia changed his mind.
Garcia On Mayweather
“I’m not going to lie, Floyd’s pretty influential. He’s like, ‘Why would you do that? Why don’t you fight Rolly for the belt and then fight Haney?’ I said, ‘That makes sense, but I told the people already I’m going to fight Devin.’ He said, ‘Some things change.’ I’m paraphrasing, but I quickly decided, ‘Alright, Floyd, that makes sense,’” Garcia added
Now that the Haney fight is on the cards. The Dream appears keen on beating Garcia over how he behaved. Haney is the current WBC Junior Welterweight Champion after beating Regis Prograis to win every round.
After his win, Garcia called out Haney before talks ended. Now, Haney has set his sights on giving Garcia his second loss after he was beaten by Gervonta Davis last year. In doing so, he mocked Garcia’s new style under Derrick James, which featured the unconventional use of a shoulder roll.
“I’m going to beat the shoulder roll out of you on April 20th,” Devin Haney said
