H2O Sylve vs JoJo Diaz results: Young lightweight returns
Ashton Sylve steps up against seasoned veteran JoJo Diaz tonight at Thunder Studios in Long Beach, hoping to prove he belongs among legitimate lightweight contenders.
The 22-year-old Sylve enters the 10-round super lightweight bout with a 13-1 record and 10 knockouts, per Bad Left Hook, but the loss column tells the story. Lucas Bahdi stopped him in 2024, a defeat that ended his promotional deal with Most Valuable Promotions and sent him back to the minor leagues for two soft rebuilds. Diaz, a 33-year-old former world titleholder at 126 and 130 pounds, carries a 34-9-1 ledger and the kind of miles that show. He remains competitive, though, and represents Sylve's toughest test since the Bahdi disaster.
What Sylve needs to show against Diaz
The MF Pro card streams live on DAZN starting at 8 p.m. ET. Sylve has the hand speed and pop to hurt Diaz if the veteran's chin has worn thin, but he will need to manage distance better than he did against Bahdi, who walked through his output and cracked him late. Diaz has been stopped just twice in 44 professional fights, both times by elite operators, so durability is not the concern. His output at volume is.
The undercard features lightweight J'Hon Ingram against Devin Cushing in a 10-rounder, plus middleweight Amir Anderson facing Jonas Sylvain. Former title challenger Juan Carlos Burgos meets Ernesto Mercado at super lightweight, and women's flyweight/" class="internal-link text-bone underline decoration-ash/30 hover:decoration-gold underline-offset-2">super flyweight Kayla Gomez takes on Shayntain Creer over six two-minute rounds.
First bell is scheduled for 8 p.m. Eastern on Friday, with Sylve and Diaz expected in the ring around 11 p.m. ET depending on undercard pacing.
