Gillian Robertson still uses marijuana during UFC 330 camp

Gillian Robertson has not stopped using marijuana during her training camp for UFC 330.

Robertson, who challenges Mackenzie Dern for the women's strawweight title on Aug. 15 at Xfinity Mobile Arena in Philadelphia, told Ariel Helwani in a recent interview that she continues to consume cannabis throughout her preparation. The Canadian adjusts her usage only during fight week based on the athletic commission's regulations.

"I still smoke all through fight camp, and then, during fight week, it depends, obviously, on the commission and whether we're allowed to or not," Robertson said, per Sherdog. "And if we are, I usually will smoke up to weigh-in day, and then fight day, I don't like to smoke." She added that she believes it aids recovery and relaxation but sees no performance-enhancing benefit.

The UFC removed marijuana from its banned substances list, though some state commissions still prohibit athletes from competing under the active influence of cannabis. Robertson, who calls herself a marijuana advocate and has said "420 is the only holiday that I celebrate," tailors her usage to whichever body is overseeing the bout.

Robertson enters the title shot on a five-fight winning streak with a 17-8 record. Dern captured the vacant strawweight belt in October by defeating Virna Jandiroba in a rematch and has won three straight. The Aug. 15 date marks Robertson's first UFC championship opportunity.
