Froch Backs Fury To Beat Usyk – ‘The Size Of Fury Will Be A Problem'

In heavyweight boxing news, Carl Froch has backed Tyson Fury to beat Oleksandr Usyk in a very close fight.

After months of negotiations over whether the undisputed heavyweight fight would happen, both fighters agreed to secure the biggest fight in boxing. In a tale of two undefeated fighters, their styles could not be more different.

Fury has transformed himself into a power puncher following his work with SugarHill Steward. His stoppages against Deontay Wilder had shown that even if he did risk getting hit himself.

Meanwhile, Usyk is a slippery southpaw known for his high IQ having become undisputed at cruiserweight, a feat Fury has never managed to achieve.

The Ukrainian managed also managed to negate Anthony Joshua on two occasions despite being the smaller man. And yet, his perceived vulnerabilities to the body were shown when he was knocked down by Daniel Dubois with a body shot.

Despite it being declared a low blow, it did show a chink in Usyk’s armour. And given that Fury is the bigger and heavier fighter, Froch has backed him to be too much for the Ukrainian.

Froch On Fury-Usyk

"I can make a case of Usyk beating Fury, he has the skills and the ability and he’s used to fighting bigger guys since he entered the heavyweight division, he’s thicker set and he’s put a bit of weight on, and he seems to be able to hold his own. But he is getting older and slowing down a little bit, but so is Fury, so he could outbox, outwork, and outskill him.

“A good Fury beats a good Usyk in a good, very close fight and an awkward fight. I think Fury nullifies his work and ties him up. I’m not so sure if he gets the stoppage.  I just think that the size of Fury will be a problem. I don’t think Usyk can make that range up against the 6 ‘9 Fury," Froch said

Ultimately, the fight was exactly what boxing fans needed after not having seen an undisputed heavyweight champion since 1999 when Lennox Lewis beat Evander Holyfield.

And at a time when boxing has been accused of not putting on the biggest fights, the desire from both fighters to prove who is the best in their era should be commended.

Froch Praises Fury-Usyk

After all, that may encourage other boxers to do the same rather than play it safe. And since Froch was known for fighting the best, having avenged all his losses except for the Andre Ward defeat, the four-time world champion praised both fighters for getting it on.

"It’s something we needed – an undisputed heavyweight champion. F—— brilliant. Fair play to everybody involved. I think Frank Warren has done a fantastic job getting it over the line and I’m really pleased, not only as a fan but for the sport of boxing, and I hope it happens," Froch

Fury is the slight favorite, but there is an argument for both boxers to win the fight, which is why it cannot come soon enough. Find all the latest boxing news and MMA breaking updates on boxingblitz.
