In today’s online boxing news, Chris Eubank Jr. was far from impressed by Conor Benn’s comeback fight against Rodolfo Orozco

The two boxers had been on the verge of having a fight over a year ago only for the bout to be pulled following Benn’s two failed VADA tests for Clompene.

Benn’s Troubles

In response, Benn was suspended by UKAD which was then overturned by the National Anti-Doping Agency. Although that may have been the case, UKAD and the British Boxing Board of Control have appealed the decision.

This was after suggestions that Benn’s defense was based on jurisdictional reasons as to whether UKAD enforce VADA tests. Therefore, Benn appears to have more work to do in order to clear his name.

But it seems that this has also translated into his ring performances. Despite having won via a unanimous decision, Benn failed to stop his opponent.

This was despite having landed numerous blows against him. And that did not leave Eubank feeling that impressed at all as he shared some sleeping emojis.

Eubank Jr. On Benn

Those comments were predictable since Benn had made similar statements against Eubank Jr. following his win over Liam Smith. Despite Eubank Jr. stopping Smith in the tenth round, Benn dismissed the victory.

Instead, he chose to make reference to the fact that it took Eubank until the tenth round to stop Smith who appeared hampered by an ankle injury as early as round two.

"Smith made him look good. What, it takes you ten rounds to dispatch of someone who’s got a broken leg? I’m not really impressed. You could definitely see that it was an injury, that’s all that was. 100 per cent, you could tell Smith weren’t himself. His shots weren’t coming off, he weren’t able to get out the way of the shots. And that’s all that was.

"I didn’t think it was an impressive performance. If you’ve got a wounded man in there, take hold of them, get them out of there. If I’ve got someone injured in front of me who can’t throw back, they ain’t seeing the end of the round. That’s it. He looked better than he has done previously, but it weren’t all that. Smith made him look good tonight," Benn

BBBofC’s Problems

Staying on the theme of the British Boxing Board of Control, the organization has faced allegations of racism and discrimination in a damning set of claims.

The accusations have been made against the organization by two former judges, John-Lewis and Jeff Hinds, and Ruqsana Begum, a flyweight boxer.

Although that may have been the case, the British Boxing Board of Control have denied doing anything of the sort. A report alleges that Begum stated that her interactions with the board led her to believe that she had faced racism.

And one such experience she alleged occurred when she saw her license suspended. This occurred in the aftermath of her allegedly wearing leggings in the ring following as per in line with her Islamic beliefs.

And yet, the board claimed that there were two reasons for her suspension. One included a claim that her fitness was not up to scratch, while another was allegedly in relation to her boxing record of losing four fights in a row. And yet, Begum only had three fights at the time.

In addition to this, Ian John-Lewis and  Jeff Hinds are the others to have alleged accusations of racism. The duo were the only two black referees/judges to have been given a job by the board. And by the looks of it, the claims are very serious indeed.

"I’m absolutely disgusted. They used a scapegoat. They were under so much pressure the British Boxing Board of Control that they needed someone to be punished and they chose me… They singled me out and I believe it’s because I’m black," John-Lewisstated

The BBBofC clearly has a lot on its plate when it comes to Benn and the accusations of racism. But the sooner that these issues are resolved, the easier it will be for all sides to move forward. And in doing so, reassure the fans over whether Eubank-Benn will happen.
