Ennis Already Targeting Fundora

Boxing News Staff
Contributor ·

Jaron Ennis stopped Xander Zayas on Saturday night and by Monday the next fight was already taking shape.

Negotiations are underway for a three-belt unification against WBC junior middleweight champion Sebastian Fundora, with a November or December date being targeted. Ennis wants the undisputed title and is not prepared to wait around building toward it slowly.

Ennis holds the WBA and WBO titles following Saturday's seventh-round stoppage of Zayas. Fundora holds the WBC after defences against Chordale Booker, Tim Tszyu in a rematch, and Keith Thurman.

Ennis arrives at the negotiation in a different position than he held 48 hours ago. Saturday night at the Barclays Center made him a two-weight world champion, pushed his record to 36-0 with 32 knockouts, and — crucially — showed the sport his dominance. A Fundora fight in November or December gives Ennis three major belts and the clearest possible path toward undisputed.
