De La Hoya's Massive Rant Against Reynoso – ‘Six Fighters Have Tested Positive'

Oscar De La Hoya slammed the wider boxing industry in the latest edition of his Clapback Thursday segment. 

De La Hoya’s first point of criticism was the Canelo Alvarez vs. Terence Crawford fight. He questioned why Dana White would promote such an event, given his only experience in boxing was a Floyd Mayweather vs. Conor McGregor crossover fight in 2017. The move is part of TKO Group Holdings’ first foray into boxing, which could present a threat to Oscar’s Golden Boy Promotions by offering fighters an alternative. 

Oscar then turned his attention to Canelo’s trainer, Eddy Reynoso. De La Hoya singled out the trainer after Jaime Munguia’s failed VADA test. The news means it was the sixth fighter from Reynoso’s camp to have tested positive. De La Hoya could not understand the number, describing it was “suspicious.”

Oscar also questioned how Canelo vs. Crawford could ever be considered the fight of the year. This was in reference to the huge disparity in weight. Canelo is a seasoned 168-pounder who has also boxed at 175 pounds. Meanwhile, Crawford will jump up from 154 pounds after just one fight to face Alvarez. Crawford showed he could be hurt in his last fight against Israil Madrimov at 154, making Canelo a tough task. De La Hoya also stated the fight would have to be during the day to cater for UFC Noche. 

De La Hoya Reacts

"I mean, these are the facts. For example, six of Eddy Reynoso’s fighters have tested positive for PEDs, the latest being Jaime Munguia two weeks ago. Six fighters and no one is questioning this? This doesn’t seem suspicious or out of the ordinary to you?

"Now what the media is reporting and it’s circulating is that Canelo vs Crawford is the biggest fight of the decade. I mean to a purist and a fighter [like myself] it’s laughable because you have Crawford jumping up two weight classes to fight Canelo who’s a natural light heavyweight. Crawford who couldn’t push back Madrimov? Life and death with Madrimov! What do you think Canelo’s going to do to him, run him out of the ring!

"You know what’s laughable also, Dana White being named the promoter of this fight considering he’s never been in the boxing space, has no stable of boxers. He didn’t negotiate sh-t, and is being handed this fight on a silver platter and called ‘promoter.’ He’s the trust fund baby of boxing. That’s it," De La Hoya said
