Dana White condemns Josh Hokit's Michelle Obama comments at UFC
UFC CEO Dana White has distanced himself from Josh Hokit's post-fight remarks about former First Lady Michelle Obama, calling them "nasty and false."
Hokit, who stopped Derrick Lewis in the second round at UFC White House on Sunday, used his in-cage interview with Joe Rogan to make a baseless claim about Obama. After praising President Trump and calling out Alex Pereira, the heavyweight said, "Lastly, Michele Obama is a man. Am I right, America?" according to footage shared on social media.
White distances UFC from fighter's controversial comments
White told Time he opposes personal attacks on public figures' families. "I understand that the Obama's are public figures but I'm completely against saying nasty and false things about people's families," he said. "Everyone knows my position on free speech but I hate that kind of nonsense."
Hokit has built a reputation for attention-seeking behavior that often crosses into uncomfortable territory. The former NFL hopeful has leaned into what Sherdog described as a "cringe-worthy pro wrestling schtick" throughout his rapid rise in the heavyweight ranks.
The 4-0 Octagon newcomer earned back-to-back wins over Curtis Blaydes and Lewis in less than a year since joining the roster via the Contender Series last August. Whether the UFC will issue any disciplinary action remains unclear. Hokit figures to land another high-profile booking regardless as he pushes into the top ten at heavyweight.
