Benn Could Fight In September – Says Hearn
Conor Benn could end up fighting in September after his recent suspension from UKAD was overturned.
That is according to Matchroom Boxing promoter Eddie Hearn. Benn was suspended by UKAD in April after his two failed VADA tests for Clomiphene.
Benn had been on course to face Chris Eubank Jr. only for the bout to be called off due to the negative results.
As a result, Conor has been out of action since April 2022. However, the recent news allows Benn to box once again.
Although that may be the case, the British Boxing Board of Control (BBBofc) reserves the right to appeal the decision. And yet, Hearn has already outlined his steps for Conor moving forward.
"I would like him to box in September. He wants to go straight into a big fight but he’s been out the ring for 16 months. (Benn fighting in) September and December will be great but we’ll see.
"He’s ready to rip someone’s head off. When you talk about how low he’s been, there’s some people who are like ‘he deserves it, who cares?’ But what he’s been through would break most men, " Hearn
Nevertheless, it will take some time before Benn is fully accepted back into the public arena. Therefore, finding an opponent may not be so easy.
This is particularly since the reasoning for Conor’s suspension being overturned has not been made public. Therefore, questions still remain over the reason as to why Benn’s suspension was removed, despite failing two tests.
And until that uncertainly is cleared up, Conor may face further backlash unit then. And yet, that is something that Hearn criticized, as he highlighted how Benn had cooperated with UKAD and the BBBofC.
"There are a lot of people with agendas, a lot of people that have made up their own minds and made their own decisions. We have backed Conor Benn for over a year because we believe him, not because we think we can be clever and spin something.
"I know the kid and I completely believe him and he has been fighting tooth and nail now for over a year to clear his name and ultimately, he has done it," Hearn
