In today’s latest boxing news, David Benavidez has revealed his aim of eventually moving up to light heavyweight in order to take on Dmitry Bivol.

The Mexican Monster is the current WBC super middleweight interim champion of the world as he prepares to face Demetrius Andrade on November 25th, 2023.

A win for Benavidez would retain his interim belt and put him in line to take on Canelo Alvarez. Although that may be the case, Alvarez has shown a reluctance to face Benavidez.

The latter has been in a mandatory postion for over a year, as a fight appears no closer to getting made. In the meantime, Benavidez has called on the WBC to strip Alvarez of his belt if the undisputed super middleweight champion does not wish to face him.

Benavidez On Canelo

"The past two years and I’ve been doing my job, I’ve been doing my thing. That’s what happens when you’re number one contender. You fight for the belt, so I think they [WBC] should do the right thing, and if he [Canelo Alvarez] doesn’t want to fight, strip him with a title, but like I said, I want to make my own lane.

“I don’t want to just be that fighter waiting for Canelo. As I’m doing now, I fought Caleb Plant, and now I’m fighting Demetrius. I want to make my own lane. I’m very excited," Benavidez said

But given that Benavidez cannot simply rely on Canelo alone, the fighter already has his plan set for what comes next after the latter. And a move up to light heavyweight against Bivol is being considered.

Benavidez has previously recalled how he had knocked out Bivol in sparring, which suggested that his power was capable of moving up through the weight classes.

Not only that, but Bivol’s failure to respond to those claims did increase suggestions that the sparring stories may have some credence to them. Whatever the case may have been, Benavidez was ready for the challenge come what may.

Benavidez On 175

"I actually do. After I’m done with 168, I’m going up to 175, and that’s the first fight I want. I want Bivol at 175,” said David Benavidez to ESNEWS about his plans for the future once he’s done with super middleweight. “We had some great sparring sessions. He’s a great boxer. I’m really competitive. I want to be the best. When I was young and fat, everyone said I wasn’t going to be nothing, and that’s where the fighting spirit comes from," Benavidez

Much in the same way, Benavidez has talked up Andrade in the run up to their fight. The latter is also undefeated and a two-weight world champion, having won belts at 154 and 160 pounds.

But at the age of 35, Andrade has not managed to secure the big fights that he had been expected to get. Fights with Canelo, Billy Joe Saunders and Gennady Golovkin failed to materialize. But with this fight, this could be the chance to hit the big time for both fighters.

Benavidez On Andrade

"Yeah, definitely, this is the biggest fight of my career up to this date. I give Demetrius Andrade a lotta props. He’s a great fighter. You know, a lotta people have been ducking him for a long time. So, I felt like I was in the seat that he was in, that nobody wanted to give him the opportunity. But now we came together, we’re getting the opportunity to make a great fight happen.

"And these are the type of fights I want. I wanna make my own lane. I wanna fight the best out of the best. Demetrius Andrade is up there as one of the best in this weight class. So, you know, I know it’s not gonna be an easy fight. I know it’s gonna be a tough fight. But, at the end of the day, this is gonna bring the best out of me. And I’m a monster for a reason," Benavidez
