Asplund Shocked By Pat Betting Line At UFC Vegas 120

Tom Rashid
UFC & MMA Lead Writer ·

Steven Asplund does not understand why he closed as a nearly 3-to-1 favorite against Guilherme Pat.

The heavyweight pair meet Saturday on the UFC Vegas 120 prelims at Meta Apex in Las Vegas, where Asplund sits at -298 and Pat returns +240, per MMA Mania. Asplund told Full Send MMA he finds those numbers baffling given both men carry identical 1-1 UFC records. "I'm shocked. I'm 1-1 — I don't know what they see, bro," he said. "This kid is 1-1, and he ain't no bitch. He's coming from the favelas of Brazil to put on for his family."

Asplund Warns Against Overlooking Dangerous Pat

Asplund acknowledged the Brazilian poses real finishing threats. He described Pat as dangerous and capable of ending the fight with one shot, a constant risk at heavyweight. "If he does clip me, he must act quick because I'm in the best shape I've been in in a long time," Asplund added. The Minnesota native built a home gym after his loss to Vitor Petrino at UFC Vegas 114 and has been running twice-daily training sessions to avoid another setback.

Asplund told UFC.com that losses feel like death to him and that he made a commitment to leave nothing on the table in camp. He said he has done everything possible to prepare for Pat and expects to prove that Saturday night.
