Anthony Joshua locked to U.K. for Fury fight, Hearn says
Anthony Joshua must fight Tyson Fury in the United Kingdom under terms of his contract, promoter Eddie Hearn confirmed, even as Fury's deal contains no such location clause.
Hearn told BoxingScene that Joshua's agreement explicitly states the superfight can only take place in Britain. "I don't know what [Fury's contract] says about the venue," Hearn said. "I just know what ours says: That, exclusively, the fight must take place in the U.K."
Zuffa Boxing frozen out of promotional role
Hearn added that both Joshua and Fury signed contracts naming him and Frank Warren as promoters of record, with Zuffa Boxing and its executives Dana White and Nick Khan contractually barred from involvement. White claimed last week he would promote the bout and suggested it might land outside Britain, possibly at Las Vegas's Allegiant Stadium or Los Angeles's SoFi Stadium.
The contracts tie back to Saudi financier Turki Alalshikh, who owns 60 percent of Zuffa Boxing. Alalshikh's Sela entity holds agreements for both fighters to complete tune-up bouts this summer — Fury on August 1 in Dublin, Joshua on July 25 against Kristian Prenga — before meeting each other.
Hearn spoke Friday at Desert Diamond Arena ahead of Jesse Rodriguez's bantamweight title defense. Joshua and Fury, both former unified heavyweight champions, have circled each other for years without finalizing terms until now.
