Amir Khan Doesn't Rule Out A Return – Could It Be For Pacquiao?

In the latest boxing news, Amir Khan has not ruled out a return to the ring provided that a big-name opponent can be found.
Khan’s last bout was against Kell Brook as the Brit was stopped in the sixth round. In the aftermath of that process, Khan decided to walk away from the sport.
The two-time junior welterweight champion had nothing else to prove, having faced many of the big names. However, Khan did fail a test for Ostarine, which came out in the aftermath of the Brook defeat.
As a result, Khan was given a two-year backdated ban that will end in April 2024. And if the right fighter can be found for the right purse, Khan did not say no to fighting again.
Khan On A Comeback
"If I was to ever come back…no [it’s not impossible]. I need a fight to motivate me. It has to be a big name. It’s a name. Say, if someone said Floyd Mayweather or Manny Pacquiao, I’d jump to that. Honestly, yeah. Nothing ever materializes because they can never get the money together. Everyone speaks a big dream. The only thing I’ve been offered is real fights. Exhibitions, yeah, but I don’t really believe it," Khan said
An exhibition fight with Khan against those two names would certainly draw in a huge amount of interest. Khan is known for having a big British fanbase, who traveled extensively to see the fighter crack America.
Fights with Mayweather and Manny have been rumored, but no official offer has been yet. And yet, when it comes to ‘Pacman,’ there is a lot of history there.
Both worked under Freddie Roach at the Wildcard gym in America and were known to be sparring partners. Although a professional fight did not materialize, it appears that an offer for an exhibition could happen.
Khan On Manny
“I’m still f—— getting emails and messages about that (Pacquiao) fight. It’s ridiculous. Listen, honestly speaking, I’ve had chats with Manny, myself, on Zoom meetings. The funding is there. I’ve had a chat with the investor. The investor said I’ve got the money there. But I dunno what’s going on.
"I know Manny wants it ’cause obviously Manny has been on the Zoom call with me. So now it’s come to a stage where it’s getting frustrating. ‘You said you wanted to do this on this day, this day,’ but…look, at the moment I’m a banned fighter, ’til April, which I’m trying to fight still," Khan
Ultimately, once the ban is over, Khan will be in a better position to assess his options. But based on the fights he has managed to stage during his career, there is a chance that it could get made.
But before that can happen, Khan must navigate the ban. Despite stating that there was no intention to take the Ostarine, it was in the fighter’s system. And there is not getting away from that.
