AJ Vs. Wilder Delayed Until April At The Least, Fury Rules Out AJ Fight
In the latest boxing news, Eddie Hearn has outlined the possibility of seeing an Anthony Joshua vs. Deontay Wilder fight.
The pair have been linked with a mega fight ever since 2018 when the boxers could have fought for all the belts. Reports of an alleged $50 million offer was supposedly turned down by Joshua as both sides blamed each other for the fight not happening.
Since then, talks over the fight remerged with the potential to see it in Saudi Arabia. However, those hopes were ended after Skills Challenge Entertainment could not deliver the fight with the shift in Saudi boxing going to the General Sports Authority.
Although that may be the case, Hearn has been looking at other sites with suggestions that the fight could happen in the US. And by the looks of it, fans will have to wait longer in order to see that happen.
"He wants to, he really wants to. We’ve been on calls with him all week. There’s a lot happening with the IBF situation. We’ll have to see. I think he’s going to fight in December or January. I think the Wilder fight, realistically, is not going to happen until March or April, at the latest. But he wants to fight. He wants to go back to camp and asked us to try and make him a fight for December, whether that spills into January we’ll see," Hearn said
Those comments are understandable since the Tyson Fury vs. Oleksandr Usyk bout is likely to go ahead before then. Meanwhile, terms over an AJ-Wilder fight have not been formalized into a contract.
Despite Hearn confirming that terms had been agreed verbally, no official offer has come out. At the same time, Wilder’s trainer, Malik Scott, was very vocal about the fact that Joshua was aiming to avoid the fight.
Meanwhile, Tyson Fury has ruled out facing Anthony Joshua. The Gypsy King’s comments came as he prepared to face Francis Ngannou on October 28th, 2023. Prior to that happening, however, Fury had made two 60-40 offers for Joshua.
The first was prior to the Derek Chisora fight, however, AJ’s camp expressed that unrealistic deadlines meant that the bout could not get made.
Meanwhile, the second offer arrived in the summer. And yet, that did not materialize as Joshua faced Robert Helenius instead. But now that Fury will face Oleksandr Usyk and Ngannou, the Gypsy King has dismissed the idea of an AJ fight.
"I don’t really care what he says, he’s a bum in my opinion. He’s just a big bum dosser who’s been knocked out and had three losses. You can’t even compare him to me anymore, it’s not even a fight, I don’t even look forward to fighting him, it’s not a fight anymore.
"I’m not interested. The bubble has been burst. It’s not so much interesting for me to beat AJ anymore. He’s already been beat, he’s been spanked by Usyk twice and knocked out by a fat man so it’s not of my interest to beat him…The fight is off the cards, it’s gone, dead. The fight was off the cards when he got beat," Fury stated
