Nate Diaz Vs. Jorge Masvidal Flops On PPV – ‘It Did Poorly’
The PPV numbers for Nate Diaz vs. Jorge Masvidal were very poor.
Diaz and Masvidal faced off on July 6, live from the Honda Center in Anaheim, California. Diaz won via a majority decision to avenge his defeat to Masvidal in 2019. Gamebread won that UFC 244 fight after the fight was stopped at the end of round three. Diaz had a cut over his eye, no longer allowing the fight to continue. The fight did have some success as shown by the live gate. It sold 18,040 tickets, bringing in a $1.25 million gate, as per the California State Athletic Commission (CSAC). But when it came to the PPV numbers, it was far less than expected.
PPV Numbers
“It did horrible on pay-per-view, it did TNA numbers. I’m not exaggerating. I knew it would not do well, but I was absolutely stunned how poorly it did. Nobody bought the fight. People are sick of seeing MMA fighters boxing,” Dave Meltzer Wrestling Observer
TNA (Total Nonstop Action) refers to something that has low PPV numbers. It is often connected with wrestling PPVs. TNA is now Impact Wrestling, which has struggled to get huge viewership like the WWE, meaning that TNA numbers show a very poor performance. TNA numbers mean the PPV numbers could be 5,000 plus or 60,000 plus.
Meanwhile, Jake Paul has had plenty to say about Diaz’s lawsuit following his fight with Masvidal. Diaz has sued Fanmio, alleging that his promoter, Solomon Engel, has not paid him what is due. It is claimed that Diaz had agreed to receive $10 million, but he has only been paid $1 million so far. Nate has stressed that Engel has not paid him as his wife may divorce him because of the financial loss. Given that the PPV numbers have flopped, it has left Diaz in a tough position.
Paul Reacts
Nate rejected the chance to fight Paul in an MMA rematch following their boxing bout. Diaz lost the boxing fight via a unanimous decision. After the fight, Paul offered Diaz $10 million to fight him in the PFL. PFL Chairman Donn Davis then upped the offer to $15 million. While that may have been the case, Diaz did not accept the offer. After his win over Masvidal, Diaz called out Paul for a rematch. While Paul is open to a rematch, any offer now will be a loss less.
“I think Nate Diaz and the Masvidal lawsuit just shows how dumb these people are. This is not an easy business. Boxing is not easy. It’s not easy to sell pay-per-views. If someone’s giving you a big guarantee, it’s most likely fraudulent. And Nate Diaz should’ve taken my $15 million MMA offer, but yesterday’s price is not today’s price. So now that he needs the money, the offer goes down. And I’m still down to run it in the PFL against Nate Diaz.
“I think I’ll make the transition into MMA when the opponent — or an opponent — wants to sign a contract. Somebody that I’m interested in fighting for my first MMA fight. And that’s a name like Nate Diaz, I would be interested in fighting Mike Perry. But I want to do MMA. I love it. I have a wrestling background and I think it’d be really exciting,” Paul stated
