Mosley Wins On His Return; Calls Out Pacquiao
Shane Mosley marked his return to the boxing ring with a win against Bob Kofroth in a five-rounder.
It was Mosley’s first fight since 2016, when he lost to David Avanesyan. He retired with a record of 49-10-1. The fight consisted of one-minute rounds as Mosely got back in the swing. Mosley won the exhibition and showed signs that he could still box. While there is no chance of the American making a comeback to the pro ranks, he is eying a bout with Manny Pacquiao. They faced off in 2011 as Pacman won a unanimous decision. The Filipino is now 45 years old, while Mosely is 53. Pacquiao is coming off a three-round exhibition against Rukiya Anpo.
Pacquiao looked out of sorts as he was outboxed during the three rounds. The Filipino has been linked with a return to the professional ranks. He was reportedly in talks to face the WBC Welterweight Champion Mario Barrios. However, those talks broke down as Barrios will now box Abel Ramos in November on the Jake Paul vs. Mike Tyson card. Pacquiao was recently in the UK, and reports suggested he was looking to fight in England.
Mosley Wins
Amir Khan has been earmarked as a potential opponent. Khan and Pacquiao were stablemates under Freddie Roach while at the Wildcard Gym. A professional fight never happened. But they know each other’s game after having sparred each other numerous times. Khan became frustrated that Pacquiao had not made the fight, with suggestions that the Filipino was avoiding him. However, Pacquiao’s manager, Sean Gibbons, confirmed that the fight had not gone ahead because the money was not put up.
“I can understand Amir thinking that because, not as much Manny, Manny would do it in a heartbeat. It’s all the people that have been around both guys, Amir and him. “We had Dubai and other places signing agreements, and then the money not coming through, so I can understand he is just tired of the rollercoaster up and down.
“However, that has nothing to do with Manny himself. If the proper amount of money were in place tomorrow, Manny would sign and fight – as Amir would. But the problem has always been the funding. It hasn’t been the fighters. So I don’t know if the funds are there or if anybody is interested or cares to do this in December in the UK, but the fighters, I think, would be ready,” Gibbons said
Pacquiao’s Future
But a fight with Mosley could take place, which the American wanted moving forward, as he called out Pacman in his post-fight comments.
“Pacquiao. I want to fight Pacquiao, man. I would fight Oscar [De La Hoya] but Oscar don’t wanna fight, he be talking all this mess but he doesn’t want to fight. [And] I don’t understand it. He should keep my name out of his mouth. I wasn’t even talking about him; he came up and started talking about me. He’s just jealous because I beat him two times. But we might as well do it a third time, with him talking all this mess. He doesn’t want that smoke, though. He really doesn’t,” Mosley said
