Mike Tyson Gives His Take On Spence Vs. Crawford

Mike Tyson has given his take on the outcome of Errol Spence Jr. vs. Terence Crawford.

Tyson is well aware of what it takes to become undisputed, which is exactly what is at stake on July 29th, 2023.

In 1987, Tyson overcame Tony Tucker via a unanimous decision to become the undisputed heavyweight champion of the world. 

“Becoming undisputed champion was special because everything Cus [D’Amato] and I talked about since I was 12 years old had come true. Imagine your father talking about you making something happen when you’re a kid and then you make it happen. Wow,” Tyson

Much in the same way, the winner Spence-Crawford will become the first undisputed welterweight champion of the four belt era, as one fighter will lose his undefeated record.

The narrative heading into the bout places Crawford as the slight favorite, however, Spence’s ability to break down fighters has made it a battle that could swing either way. 

With that being said, this is what Tyson had to say. 

“It’s a hell of a fight. Listen, you’ve got a master in there with a mean hell of a motherf***er, right, but the master is coming up in weight, he’s the small guy but he’s been successful with bigger guys. 

“Then again, styles make fights, that fight that Spence had with the Cuban [Yordenis Ugas], he got hurt, he got dropped, that guy is a hell of a fighter too, and he got up and killed him.

“You can’t stand still with Spence, you’ve got to move, he [Crawford] has to do a lot of movement because if you stand still, he will break you down,” Tyson 

“I like Crawford a lot [in that fight]. He beat Porter with relative ease. I like Crawford but it’s not going to be an easy fight,” Tyson 

As the fight week approaches closer, both fighters are in Vegas with less than two weeks left to go.

And with the weigh-in and pre-fight presser still to come, both fighters know that the last-minute preparations are vital for any advantage in a fight that is too close to tall.
