Mike Perry Threatens To Pull Out Jake Paul’s Eyeballs
Jake Paul and Mike Perry had their first face-to-face interview, resulting in many fireworks.
The two will face off on July 20 after Perry stepped in as a replacement for Mike Tyson. Tyson withdrew with an inflamed ulcer, and that fight will now occur on November 15. Tickets for the Paul-Perry fight are struggling to sell. Prices have been slashed, while the pre-sale numbers for the Tyson fight showed a bigger demand.
120,000 people signed up for the pre-sale tickets when Tyson was competing. But there is still an intriguing narrative. Perry is a tough MMA fighter from those Paul has faced previously. He is undefeated in the BKFC, with a 5-0 record. He was knocked out in his only boxing fight against Kenneth McNeil in 2015. However, he has come leaps and bounds since then.
Paul vs. Perry
Paul is the massive favorite, with everything on the line. He has knocked out his last two opponents, stopping Andre August and Ryan Bourland. Jake’s record stands at 9-1, with six knockouts. His only defeat came against Tommy Fury, albeit a split-decision loss. A win for Paul guarantees him the Tyson fight while also increasing his brand as he seeks a world title.
The Problem Child has also said he wants to rematch Perry in an MMA fight. This is the same offer Paul made Nate Diaz after beating him. Paul offered Diaz $10 million, while PFL Chairman Donn Davis made it to $15 million. It was not taken up, meaning Perry could become the beneficiary. As they squared off for the first time, both had plenty to say.
“I’m too sharp, too clean, punch way too hard, power in both hands – he makes a lot of mistakes. Even on his mitt work video he posted today. … There’s nothing he can do, and I respect him. He’s very violent. It’s not taking away from Mike Perry. He can beat a lot of people, but he can’t beat me,” Paul said
“I’m just now reaching prime. I’m just now getting to where I’ve been doing my best. I learned through the UFC, which was a tough place to learn. Since learning, now I’m having the success brawling these people. I’m going to exploit those green tendencies in this fight, and you will break. You look very flubbery. I’m hard as a..rock. My [body] is…shredded. Your little baby green punches can’t even reach my brain stem, bro. I’m going to dig through your eyeball and find your memories,” Perry stated
Who Wins?
Despite the fighting talk, it depends on what happens on fight night. Paul is expected to win quite comfortably since he has been used to having a regular run of boxing fights. Perry’s success in bareknuckle will not help him since the padding on the boxing gloves will lessen the damage Paul would otherwise receive.
Perry has said he wants a rematch in bareknuckle, but this is unlikely. It would require Paul to crossover to BKFC. His PFL contract may have some bearing on that. In addition, Conor McGregor is the owner of BKFC. The Problem Child is not on the best terms with McGregor, meaning negotiations would not be easy. But neither fighter can overlook the other, so July 20 is for all the marbles.
