Miguel Madueno Punches The Referee During His Fight With Keyshawn Davis

Miguel Madueno punched the referee during his fight with Keyshawn Davis

Their lightweight clash took place on the Shakur Stevenson vs. Artem Harutyunan card. Davis was dominating the fight when things got ugly at the end of round six. Davis placed his head on Madueno, who responded by throwing a punch. The left hand missed Davis, hitting the referee flush on the face.

The referee spoke with both fighters as they went to their respective corners. He then warned Madueno that he would disqualify him if there were further antics. The fight ended with Davis winning by a unanimous decision. Following his victory, he recalled some praise Floyd Mayweather had given him.

Davis Reacts

“Floyd is always in the gym helping people out. I was in there with my brother Kelvin Davis, and he was helping both of us. You can learn a lot just by being around him. I was blessed. He told me, ‘Keyshawn, you have everything’. ‘You have the skill, you have the ability, you have everything’. He said the only people who could beat him were the ones more conditioned, so make sure you are always on top of your conditioning,” Davis said

After his win, Davis wanted the biggest names. He has previously called out Teofimo Lopez for a fight. They are both with Top Rank, but Lopez fights at 140 rather than 135. Davis was ringside when Lopez defeated Jamaine Ortiz. Davis then called out Lopez for a fight, but the Takeover dismissed it. He urged Davis to seek a world title just as he had to do before getting a title shot against Vasiliy Lomachenko.

“We’re talking about a lightweight. We’re talking about a lightweight over here. He hasn’t done anything. Just like Vasiliy Lomachenko told me — if you want to fight me, you got to get a title. Get a world title. If you want to fight the king, go ahead and get the world title. I’m not going to give it to you guys … for what? You guys want it easy! Everybody wants it easy,” Lopez stated

Davis’ Options

Another option is to take on Gervonta Davis. Tank is one of the faces of boxing, and he recently confirmed that he has a 6-7 fight deal to face the biggest names. Some of the names mentioned have been Loma and Shakur Stevenson. Keyshawn is a rising talent, but he has not had too many fights to justify a big name like Tank. Keyshwan’s record is 11-0, which includes 7 KOs. Davis’ trainer, Bomac, stated that his fighter can beat Tank, provided he sticks to the game plan.

“They’re not talking about it because he’s only to ten fights, but the world knows he’s right there. He just called him out. So, I think he has in his mind that he can beat him. I’ll tell you like this: As long as he [Keyshawn] follows the game plan, he can win any fight out there. You got to think on the fly and adapt to the style that’s in there. That’s what makes a great fighter, adapting,” BoMac revealed
