McGregor's Deleted Post Hints At Retirement

Conor McGregor caused quite a stir in a now-deleted post on X where he hinted he may retire from the sport.

McGregor’s UFC career has tanked since his last fight. He suffered a 2021 defeat against Dustin Poirier at UFC 264, taking his record to three defeats out of his last four fights. The fight was compounded by a broken leg, which has kept him out since then. McGregor has tried his best to rehabilitate himself as he was scheduled to fight Michael Chandler at UFC 303 on June 29. But McGregor withdrew from the fight after suffering from a broken toe during his absence from the Octagon. McGregor’s lifestyle has also suggested that he would struggle to make a comeback.

He has been seen on numerous occasions drinking his Forge Irish Stout brand and having cigarettes in his mouth. That has led to speculation that McGregor has lost the hunger to come back to the sport. Dana White has also repeatedly said that McGregor may find it difficult to return since he is financially secure. The Irishman is on course to become a billionaire with various ventures outside of the Octagon. He is also a power-owner of BKFC, which he has dedicated much time to.

McGregor’s Mindset

The Irishman has been seen at numerous events, most recently at a BKFC event in Spain. McGregor is trying his best to increase the promotion’s brand. McGregor has two fights left on his UFC deal but has indicated he is interested in having a BKFC bout. The Irishman also has numerous opportunities to have boxing bouts, which are likely to earn him more money. He has been linked with fights against Manny Pacquiao, a Floyd Mayweather rematch and even bouts on Misfits. McGregor even hinted that he is planning on making a video game. He also recently made his Hollywood debut in Road House, starring alongside Jake Gyllenhaal.

While McGregor has continuously hinted that he wants to make a return, some have questioned his seriousness. He has fired various verbal shots against other MMA fighters. This has included exchanging words with UFC Featherweight Champion Ilia Topuria. McGregor recently stated that he would slap the nose of the Georgian during a live stream with betting company Duelbits. He has also criticized the UFC Welterweight Champion Belal Muhammad’s fighting style, criticizing him for simply winning on decisions.

McGregor’s Future

While he was meant to fight Chandler, the latter has now moved on to rematch Charles Oliveira at UFC 309. McGregor recently confirmed that he would face Dan Hooker on February 1 in Saudi Arabia. Hooker confirmed that talks were going on. However, the UFC has not confirmed a fight, meaning the Irishman has been left none the wiser. Although White is confident that McGregor will fight early next year, a fan suggested that it made no sense for McGregor to come back. The Irish stated that he agreed before deleting it.
