McGregor Will Fight In BKFC – ‘100 Percent’
BKFC President David Feldman is confident Conor McGregor will fight in the organization.
McGregor’s current UFC career has derailed since losing to Dustin Poirier at UFC 264 in 2021. That was the third loss of McGregor’s four previous UFC fights. He suffered a broken leg to accompany that, leaving fans frustrated. He was set to face Michael Chandler at UFC 303 on June 29, but the Irishman had to withdraw after breaking his toe. Chandler has moved on and will rematch Charles Oliveira at UFC 309.
Meanwhile, McGregor is expected to fight early next year. That left McGregor’s UFC career in limbo since he has two fights left on his UFC deal. The Irishman has indicated that he does want to fight in BKFC at some point in the future. McGregor is a current part-owner of the organization. He has been investing a lot of time in it by attending various press conferences. Several fighters have been linked with a BKFC fight against him, including Oleksandr Usyk and even Nate Diaz.
Feldman On McGregor
McGregor’s star power was shown when the presser tickets for the Chandler fight sold out in just nine minutes. The live gate was also expected to exceed $20 million, which would have been a UFC record at the time. Feldman was confident that McGregor would make more money than ever if he fought in BKFC, something he felt was inevitable.
“Unless he’s the best salesman in the world, the talks that we’ve had it’s like ‘I’m fighting here. I’m like yeah, OK. He [said] ‘I’m fighting here.’ “I go, ‘Why wouldn’t you fight here?’ Because you have equity in the company and if you fight here, you’ll probably make more money than anywhere else in the world because of what it’s going to do for the company. So I truly believe what you said — I think 100 percent he fights here,” Feldman said
McGregor’s Issues
Nevertheless, the problem for McGregor is that the UFC is unlikely to co-promote with BKFC, meaning that fans would have to wait until the two fights left on his deal expire. There are also question marks over whether he is the same fighter. He is coming back from a career-threatening injury. McGregor also has other options, such as boxing. He has been linked with a boxing fight against Manny Pacquiao and Jake Paul, while there are also Misfit opportunities against KSI. Either way, Feldman felt that McGregor and the BKFC were a good combination.
“We had a great talk this weekend, it was just me and him talking and I said to him ‘I don’t know if you really believe me, but this is going to be the biggest thing in the world in a few years, there’s nothing that’s going to be bigger than this, trust me.’ He goes, ‘It’s going to be two years.. [Conor] sees the vision. Are we ever going to be the biggest combat sport in the world? Probably not honestly but we’re definitely going to be one of the biggest. Absolutely. The numbers just keep going up,” Feldman stated
