McGregor Vows To End Tony Ferguson, O’Malley Comparisons With McGregor And More

Conor McGregor has vowed to end Tony Ferguson’s UFC career.

The duo do have some history between each other, as Ferguson had been asked at one point to be a coach on the ‘TUF’ series alongside McGregor.

Although that may have been the case, it was Michael Chandler who ended up taking the role.

That naturally led to suggestions that McGregor could end up facing Chandler in the cage. Although Ferguson was not part of the show, it appears that McGregor has now turned his attention to him.

Ferguson, however, is not in the best of form. Ferguson has lost his last six fights, and at the age of 39, he is clearly in the latter parts of his career.

Meanwhile, McGregor has not been in the cage since his loss to Dustin Poirier in 2021. Although the ‘Notorious’ was keen on making a return in 2023, the failure to enroll in USADA has now pushed back his return to 2024.

But once he does, it could be a bout with Ferguson.

McGregor On Ferguson

“I’m gonna end you and badly. I’ve not forgot,” McGregor said

And yet, there are question marks over whether Ferguson should retire. His last bout was a loss to Bobby Green at UFC 291, as Fergsuon lost as he was choked out.

And given that four of Ferguson’s losses out of his last six have been by way of stoppages, the calls on Ferguson to retire increased.

After all, Ferguson is a former UFC interim lightweight champion with nothing else to prove in the sport.

O’Malley On McGregor Comparisons

Meanwhile, Sean O’Malley has downplayed the comparison that has emerged between him and Conor McGregor following his win over Aljamain Sterling.

O’Malley stopped Sterling in the second round to become the new bantamweight champion at UFC 292.

The manner of the victory was all the more impressive since it was O’Malley’s first title, while the win ended Sterling’s nine-fight-win streak.

The victory drew parallels with McGregor’s knockout of Jose Aldo in 2015, as the ‘Notorious’ stopped the Brazilian in just 13 seconds to become the featherweight champion.

Thereafter, the Irishman became the first person in UFC’s history to become a double champion as he stopped the lightweight champion Eddie Alvarez.

But for all of the plaudits, O’Malley feels there is still some more work to do before he can reach the level of McGregor.

“We’re not quite there yet, but one more knockout, and I think it puts me over the top. I think there’s a couple ways of (reaching McGregor status). Defending the belt obviously is one way. Putting a beautiful knockout on for my first title defense would do that,” O’Malley

McGregor On O’Malley

Despite that being the case, it appears that McGregor is behind O’Malley as the ‘Notorious’ was impressed by what he had seen.

“Look at O’Malley saying the same thing, ‘I’m going to be as big as Conor’. Then, he goes out and does the exact same f*cking thing I’m doing, to make [himself] as big as Conor. You get me? It’s just f*cking madness.

“It’s mad to see to be honest. What way did the f*cking finish go? It was almost identical, in the main event, and, I don’t know. It’s crazy, big respect,” McGregor

 McGregor’s Future

Nevertheless, rather than worrying about O’Malley, McGregor’s focus must be on his own career. The failure to enrol in USADA has prevented him from making a comeback as he wanted to do in December.

Not only that, but McGregor’s accomplishments came at a time when he was at the peak of his powers.

That is no longer the case, which is why he must do more in order to win over the fans. After all, he has been left frustrated by the failure to get back in the cage, as the wait continues.
