McGregor Targets The Winner Of Chandler vs. Pimblett

Conor McGregor is targeting the winner of Michael Chandler vs. Paddy Pimblett next.
McGregor’s comments arrive just as Chandler takes on Pimblett this weekend at UFC 314. McGregor has been linked with the fight against Chandler ever since they faced off as rival coaches on the TUF 31 series. Chandler won the team challenge, while McGregor got his own back on the individual challenge. McGregor has not been in the Octagon since 2021, when Dustin Poirier beat him. That was McGregor’s third defeat from his last four fights. He suffered a broken leg, which has kept him out for a prolonged period.
Fans were looking forward to McGregor making a comeback at UFC 303 last year against Chandler. However, The Notorious withdrew from the fight after suffering a broken toe. Chandler moved on to face Charles Oliveira in a rematch at UFC 309 as he lost to him once again. Pimblett enters into this Chandler fight following an impressive win over Bobby Green at UFC 304. It was the first time he had beaten a ranked opponent as he extended his record to 6-0.
While McGregor is targeting Chandler, a fight with Pimblett could also play out since it has the potential to do big numbers. McGregor showed that he was keeping himself in shape by throwing punches on the pads, as seen in the clip below. The problem for McGregor is that he has given mixed comments about a comeback. He recently made a visit to the White House and addressed the media after which he indicated his desire to run for the Irish leadership to improve the country. He also made a statement at BKFC Dubai, stating that perhaps his future lies in politics.
McGregor’s Future
“What is going on in Ireland is a travesty. Our government is the government of zero action with zero accountability. Ireland is at the cusp of potentially losing its Irishness. Ireland and America, we are siblings. We consider America our big sibling. So it’s important for Ireland to be a peaceful, prosperous country for 40 million Irish Americans to have a place to visit, [to] come back to their home. So we wish for our relationship with the United States to continue, and we wish to be taken care of by the big bro. The United States should look after its little bro. And that’s how we feel,” McGregor said
“I’ve got two fights on the contract, I’m in negotiations. Last week something happened to me, I went to the White House and my heart bleeds for my country right now. So there’s a lot of stuff going on back home, I’m happy with what I’ve done. There’s something else for me that’s in my gut right now and that’s kind of where I’m going,” McGregor said
This raised doubts about whether McGregor wanted to return since he still has two fights left on his UFC deal. However, if the right offer is presented, McGregor could make a comeback.
