McGregor Slams Canelo's Star Power - 'Canelo Is A Cornflake, He Doesn't Sell'

Conor McGregor has hit out at Canelo Alvarez, saying he is not a big PPV star.

McGregor’s comments were made in response to Canelo’s upcoming fight with Edgar Berlanga. The fight takes place on Mexican Independence Weekend on September 14, which will clash with UFC 306. The UFC will hold the first-ever combat sports event at The Sphere in Las Vegas.

This will feature the headline event between Sean O’Malley and Merab Dvalishvili. Dana White has said he has invested at least $17 million on the card. McGregor expects the UFC event to outdo Canelo’s fight as he questioned Canelo’s star power. The Notorious felt Canelo was asking too much money by demanding $200 million to fight David Benavidez

McGregor On Canelo

“Canelo is a cornflake. He has about [300,000] buys in him. He does not generate nothing near what he seeks to be paid. UFC [306] is going to run them from the strip. Sheik Turki was right moving on. Canelo doesn’t sell,” McGregor said

McGregor also turned his attention towards Khabib Nurmagomedov. The pair have had a feud for some time since their UFC 229 in 2018. Conor attacked Khabib’s team bus while also making comments that upset Khabib about his faith at their presser.

Nurmagomedov ended up stopping McGregor via a fourth-round submission, and he came out victorious. Once the fight was over, Khabib jumped over the Octagon. A brawl then broke out between the two sides.

A rematch never happened, leaving the pair on bad terms. Much more recently, McGregor has been firing verbal shots at Khabib over his reported tax issues. He allegedly owes the Russian government unpaid taxes close to $3 million.

McGregor On Khabib

It is believed that his house could be sold to generate what is owed. McGregor claims that he is in the running to buy the house. Meanwhile, McGregor has also claimed that Khabib fled Russia after authorities killed a fighter who attended his gym for being involved in a terror attack.

“lol! He fled his country after terrorists from his gym committed an act of terror in their city. He was banned from leaving and he fled. If he goes back to Russia he is locked up instantly. I am currently in an auction to buy the house that was repossessed from him. It’s going,” McGregor stated

McGregor is currently on his way back from a broken toe, which forced him to withdraw from his Michael Chandler fight at UFC 303. The injury meant McGregor’s delay continued as he has not fought since losing to Dustin Poirier at UFC 264. The Irishman’s popularity, however, remained.

The live gate for the Chandler fight broke UFC records, exceeding $20 million. Meanwhile, tickets for the presser sold out in nine minutes. McGregor’s fight with Khabib also has the PPV record, doing 2.4 million buys. Although McGregor is still a big name, he cannot continue to live off his previous accomplishments as a two-weight UFC champion. The question is, can McGregor get back to his best?
