McGregor Hints At Possible ‘Retirement’ – ‘There’s Something Else For Me’

Conor McGregor’s fight career could be over after he hinted that his focus is on politics.
McGregor has not had a UFC fight since 2021, when Dustin Poirier stopped him. That took his record to three losses from his previous four fights as he suffered a broken leg. He had been on a mission to make one of the greatest comebacks in UFC history, as he was scheduled to fight Michael Chandler on June 29 last year. However, the UFC 303 fight never went ahead as McGregor pulled out with a broken toe.
He then said he would be facing Dan Hooker in February in Saudi Arabia. That fight never went ahead, while McGregor’s reputation suffered huge damage when he was found liable in a civil sexual lawsuit.
Nikita Hand accused him of sexual assault, which allegedly took place at a Dublin hotel room in 2018. Although McGregor denied anything of the sort, he was ordered to pay her legal fees and damages.
McGregor’s reputation took a further hit as several brands cut ties with him. The Hitman video game franchise and Proper No. 12 Irish Whiskey distanced themselves from McGregor. Airports in Cork and Dublin also said that they would not stock his drinks. McGregor recently visited the White House to meet with President Donald Trump. He addressed the media, saying he was unhappy with the state of Ireland, particularly with its failure to tackle illegal immigration.
McGregor’s Future
“What is going on in Ireland is a travesty. Our government is the government of zero action with zero accountability. Ireland is at the cusp of potentially losing its Irishness. Ireland and America, we are siblings. We consider America our big sibling. So it’s important for Ireland to be a peaceful, prosperous country for 40 million Irish Americans to have a place to visit, [to] come back to their home. So we wish for our relationship with the United States to continue, and we wish to be taken care of by the big bro. The United States should look after its little bro. And that’s how we feel,” McGregor said
His comments earned him backlash from the Irish Prime Minister Micheal Martin. McGregor later said that he would focus on running for PM. McGregor still has two fights left on his UFC contract. However, his following comments suggest that he may call time on his career, as he said he was happy with everything he had achieved in the fight game. It suggests that McGregor no longer has the hunger to compete at the highest level.
“I’ve got two fights on the contract, I’m in negotiations. Last week something happened to me, I went to the White House and my heart bleeds for my country right now. So there’s a lot of stuff going on back home, I’m happy with what I’ve done. There’s something else for me that’s in my gut right now and that’s kind of where I’m going,” McGregor said
