McGregor Hints At 2025 Presidential Run - 'I Am The Only Logical Choice'

Conor McGregor has hinted that he wants to run for the Irish Presidency in his latest social media post.

McGregor may be a two-weight UFC champion, but his fighting career has stalled recently. He has three losses out of his last four UFC bouts. He has not competed since 2021, when he lost to Dustin Poirier at UFC 264, breaking his leg in the process. The Irishman was on course to fight Michael Chandler on June 29 at UFC 303. However, a broken toe ruled him out as questions remain over whether he will fight this year.

Since his absence from the UFC, McGregor has been preparing for his life outside of the promotion. He is a part owner of BKFC, as he hinted at the possibility of fighting in the promotion. Now, McGregor has teased a run into politics. He has previously spoken about his unhappiness with the Irish immigration system, stating there is no suitable standard to monitor those who enter the country. Having become dissatisfied, McGregor may enter politics to resolve the situation as the Irish elections occur next year.

McGregor Reacts

“As President I hold the power to summon the Dáil as well as dissolve it. So as i said before, I would have all the answers the people of Ireland seek from these thieves of the working man, these disrupters of the family unit, these destructors of small businesses, and on and on and on!

“These charlatans in their positions of power would be summoned to answer to the people of Ireland and I would have it done by day end. Or I would be left with no choice but to dissolve the Dáil entirely. Stop the train until. The people of Ireland deserve the answers they seek. Point blank. This would be my power as President. I know very well. Ireland needs an active President employed wholly by the people of Ireland. It is me. I am the only logical choice. 2025 is upcoming,” McGregor said

Before McGregor considers that, he must focus on his fighting career. The 35-year-old is at the latter end of his career. The continued inactivity harms his legacy, as McGregor cannot live off his past achievements. The build-up for the Chandler fight showed there was still demand to see him compete. The presser tickets were all sold out in nine minutes.

McGregor’s Future

The live gate was on course to set a new UFC record of over $20 million, a record that McGregor already had when he fought Eddie Alvarez in 2016 at UFC 205. The gate record was set at $17.7 million. With two fights left on his UFC deal, McGregor is expected to fight again. Jake Paul felt that the two remaining fights gave the UFC more leverage over how they could use McGregor.

“Conor has two fights left on his fight deal, but the UFC is trying to renew their rights deal. They license their content, which are the fights, to platforms. So they’re trying to renew their deal, and they’re negotiating with multiple people.

“But, let’s say they’re going with ESPN. They’re trying to renew the deal and get the most amount of money, a part of that negotiation is, ‘Hey, we have Conor McGregor for two more fights’. But, if he were to fight now, that wouldn’t be part of the negotiation. ‘Oh we only have Conor for one fight’. So, that’s why Conor isn’t fighting now, and this is what they do to the fighters,” Paul stated
