In some top MMA news, Conor McGregor’s latest social media post has caused controversy after he reacted to Usman Nurmagomedov’s failed test by bringing up Khabib Nurmagomedov’s deceased father.
It is no secret that McGregor and Khabib are not on the best of terms. During their rivalry, McGregor infamously attacked a bus that Khabib was on as the bad blood resulted in the fight.
The pre-fight presser then drew up many talking points with McGregor allegedly disrespecting Khabib’s Islamic faith which all came to a head in the cage.
The fight resulted in Khabib stopping McGregor in the fourth round via a rear naked choke, as a brawl broke out in the aftermath.
But this time around, McGregor’s comments touched upon Khabib’s cousin, Usman. The Bellator lightweight champion had been fined $50,000 and given a six-month suspension after he failed a test.
The failed VADA test, as per the California State Athletic Commission Executive Director Andy Foster, was due to some prescription medicine.
As such, Nurmagomedov’s victory over Brent Primus at Bellator 300 was changed to a no-contest. His manager, Ali Abdelaziz, clarified the situation further.
Usman’s Failed Test
“Usman was prescribed medication for an illness he had. It’s not an anabolic steroid, EPO, HGH, etc. Nothing enhancing. He will rematch Primus and get back in the tournament,” Ali Abdelaziz (Nurmagomedov’s manager) stated
Thereafter, Usman did explain the circumstances surrounding the whole incident. And yet, that will not prevent the fact that there could be question marks over his past wins.
After all, the fighter did accept the six month suspension rather than deciding to appeal it. In response to the news, Usman stated the following.
“A few months before my fight, I was undergoing treatment, but unfortunately, I did not notify the Athletic Commission in advance. I would like to note that the California State Athletic Commission conducted its own full investigation, where I provided all the necessary documents, doctor notes and medical certificates, thanks to which the period of my disqualification was reduced to 6 months, instead of longer suspensions accepted in such cases,” Nurmagomedov revealed
McGregor’s Comments
Those comments stoked a fiery response from McGregor, who has been doing everything in his power to get a rematch with Khabib. Despite this being the case, the latter has made it clear that he has no intention of coming back.
The fighter’s comments were based on a promise he had made to his mother, following the passing of his father. And in doing so, Khabib has admitted that he rejected multi-million dollar offers to make a return.
Therefore, McGregor’s following comments will not help a situation that has been tough for Khabib to deal with.
“I am not one bit surprised upon hearing another of the Nurmagomedov team testing positive for steroids. Hypocrites of the highest order. Steroids are HARAM. The shame of Allah [God] hangs over the Nurmagomedov clan. Cheaters! Abdulmanap is doing tumbles in his grave,” McGregor said
