McGregor Angry At Trump For Saying Khabib Is His Favorite – ‘Campaign Ending Decision’
Conor McGregor reacted angrily after Donald Trump named Khabib Nurmagomedov as his favorite fighter.
McGregor and Khabib’s bad blood continued ever since they faced off at UFC 229 in 2018. It set the record for the most number of PPVs in the UFC at 2.4 million buys. The build-up was clouded by mass controversy when McGregor attacked Khabib’s team bus. At the presser, McGregor made some disparaging comments that Khabib took personally as a disrespect towards his Islamic faith.
When they squared off in the octagon, Khabib was the better man, winning via a fourth-round submission. Nurmagomedov then jumped over the octagon as a brawl broke out. While a rematch was entertained, it never happened. Since then, McGregor has fired verbal shots at Khabib on social media at every opportunity.
Trump Reacts
This was most recently done after reports that Khabib owes the Russian government unpaid taxes, which amounted to approximately $3 million. However, Trump has had a far better impression of Khabib. The former US President made an appearance at UFC 302. During this period, he had a conversation with Khabib during where the former MMA fighter asked Trump to end the Israel-Palestine war. Sometime after, he referred to Khabib as the GOAT. Trump has echoed those words by saying Khabib is his favorite fighter.
“Well, I think Khabib. Khabib was 29-0, and then his father died and he stopped. I think he never lost a round. He fought many times, he never lost a round. I got to meet him at a fight, two fights ago, as I walked in with Dana… I met Khabib and he said ‘You are the man who could stop the war’ talking about the war in Ukraine and Russia,” Trump said
McGregor has now responded, saying he was very disappointed by what Trump had to say.
McGregor Responds
“Campaign ending decision. A smelly fat mountain monkey from the inbred mountains of Dagestan is your favorite UFC (AMERICAN COMPANY) fighter? Wow. Abysmal.
“I was actually wrong. Couple hundred million he is worth. Not multi B. I would have thought USA ONLY would be the mentality here and what I would want to see out of my president, personally. To pick a retired inbred fighter from Dagestan Russia who has 3 main events only to his name is astounding. Over all the American fighters that have backed him. It’s a shocking decision. He was caught on the spot. That won’t go unnoticed on the roster. This presidential race is very tight right now. More so now.”
Chandler also had plenty to say about the incident. He hit back at McGregor’s mentality after the Irishman pulled out of UFC 303 with a broken toe. The Notorious received criticism, with Islam Makhachev referring to Conor as a chicken for his withdrawal. While Chandler and McGregor are still expected to fight, they had a few verbal exchanges in the meantime.
