In today’s boxing news, Floyd Mayweather is reportedly in line for an exhibition fight against Mikey Garcia on December 9th, 2023.

The bout would see Mayweather have the final card on Showtime following the news that the network would not be involved in boxing come 2024.

“As we evolve our strategy to more efficiently allocate resources and align our content offering across the business, we’ve made the difficult decision not to move forward with boxing and other content produced by the Showtime sports team. Showtime will continue to air and support the remaining 2023 boxing slate and honor obligations through the end of the year,” Paramount Global

“The company’s decision is not a reflection of the work we have done in recent years, nor of our long and proud history. … Unfortunately, in a rapidly evolving media marketplace, the company has had to make difficult choices allocating resources, resetting priorities and reshaping its content offering. While today’s news is certainly difficult and disappointing, it is entirely out of our control,” Stephen Espinoza

Mayweather Vs. Mikey Garcia

Standing in his way would be Garcia, who has not fought since his defeat to Sandor Martin in 2021. Garcia is a credible name, having been a four-division champion.

However, in the latter parts of his career, Garcia suffered a defeat to Errol Spence Jr. in a one-sided bout after he jumped up two-weight classes to fight the ‘Truth’ at 147.

Ever since then, Garcia never looked the same. But the fight could provide the chance to make history if it is indeed Showtime’s last card.

Thurman Vs. Danny Garcia

In chief support, Keith Thurman is rumored to be up against Danny Garcia in a rematch of their 2017 bout. During the course of that process, Thurman came out victorious via a split decision to become the unified welterweight champion.

The bout, though, has been rumored to be at junior middleweight since both boxers are at the latter end of their career.  Nevertheless, the fight date would be up against Devin Haney vs. Regis Prograis.

And since that bout is for the WBC junior welterweight belt, there is the prospect that the viewing figures are impacted as a result. Regardless of what happens, seeing Mayweather get in the ring has provided fans with a spectacle over the years.

Usyk Will Attend Fury-Ngannou

In addition, Oleksandr Usyk will be at Tyson Fury’s bout against Francis Ngannou

The ‘Gypsy King’ will face the former UFC heavyweight champion on October 28th, 2023. The bout will be on both boxers’ official records, although Fury’s WBC title will not be on the line.

The fight will mark Ngannou’s boxing debut as the MMA fighter is seen as a massive underdog. But provided that Fury comes out victorious, as he is expected to do, then a fight with Usyk is expected to go ahead.

Both fighters had recently confirmed that an agreement had been made for the undisputed heavyweight fight, subject to a date. And with Usyk’s presence at the fight, that will only go on to increase the anticipation around it.

“Yes, I’m going there. I would like to see the bout. The promotion is impressive, and it’s understood because this is a show that people are waiting for. But for a professional boxer, it’s completely different. No, why have I had to? This bout is bread & butter for Tyson Fury. This is my attitude towards boxing. And when someone is saying that Ngannou can drop him, I would probably agree, but I’m really not certain,” Usyk stated
