Mayweather Gym Employees Protest Over Unpaid Wages - 'Hard Work, Dedication, No Pay'

Floyd Mayweather came under fire after his employees from the Mayweather Boxing and Fitness Gym complained about not allegedly being paid.

Mayweather is considered one of the best boxers ever since he retired with a 50-0 record. Since his retirement, he has focused on making lucrative financial decisions outside the ring. One of those was to launch his Mayweather Boxing and Fitness Gym franchise. It was hoped others could replicate Floyd’s success by following in his footsteps. Mayweather’s generational talent was a large part of the selling point.

However, the boxer has also faced accusations throughout the years of struggling for money. The speculation has emerged due to his continual decision to take on exhibitions. While Mayweather has shut down money worries, he is open to collecting cheques for what he considers light sparring. But his conduct has now come under fire. Several employees took part in a protest to express their annoyance at the boxer over not being paid their wages. They were heard chanting: “Hard work, dedication, no pay.”

Reaction

“Honestly, it’s been disheartening. We haven’t been getting paid fairly; it messes with your mental health…my wife had to go to the hospital from stress and anxiety from this job. It’s just a lot of different things that hurts your heart and it sucks that you got to go through it working for such a big name company…the reality of it is we’re not even getting paid,” a coach from the gym

“I was a member of Mayweather Boxing and Fitness since late 2018, always loved the gym, always loved the studio, a big fan of Floyd. They offered me an opportunity to coach because I had boxing experience. I was like ‘man, this is going to be amazing’ and since I’ve been here it’s just been a lot of false promises…I got promised a head position, I used to work a corporate job, quit my job to come here for a better opportunity for myself and then I have to deal with unpaid wages on a consistent basis. There’s been times when I’ve went over a month without getting paid,” another coach

Further Reaction

“I started working here in September 2023 and on my first day of employment the team was not employed, and from that day I’ve always been worried but I just thought I could help turn this around and I was fed with lies from the beginning…We have lost everything, I’ve lost so much in not getting paid, getting paid late, it has completely affected my life. This situation has ruined my life,” Samaria Bolden (general manager)

Mayweather has yet to address this situation. But the boxer will have to tackle it head-on now that the employees have spoken out vocally. There is also a chance that they could pursue legal action if Mayweather does not take steps to address it immediately, leaving the boxer with plenty to consider moving forward in the future.
