Mayer And Ryan Make Weight; Ready For War

Mikaela Mayer and Sandy Ryan hit the scales at the welterweight limit, as they prepare for one of their biggest bouts.
Mayer defends her WBO Welterweight Title in her first defense having gotten the better of Ryan in their first fight. While she secured a majority decision win, the fight was dominated by the pre-fight build-up. Ryan had paint thrown on her after she exited her hotel room on the way to the venue. Mayer denied doing it after Ryan suggested someone from her team was responsible. Ryan is working with Mayer’s former trainer, Kay Koroma, as she is ready to get her revenge. The winner knows they can fight for undisputed against Lauren Price next. Mayer weighed 146 pounds, while Ryan weighed 145.5 pounds.
Reaction
“And still. I’ve got to just go in there and do what I’ve been training to do. We’ve been in the gym since the last fight, made all the adjustment and really think I’ve jumped up another level. I’m going to listen to my new and improved corner and go in there and be the best version on me. Intense work-rate from round one. Keep my foot on the gas from the beginning of the fight all the way to the 10th round.
“She said I’m scared, but I’ve been here three times now, I wanted this rematch straight after the last fight. I’m ready, this is the longest camp I’ve done, I’m so ready. If it [a knockout] comes, it comes, but we’re getting a win however it comes.
Further Reaction
“I think you have an extra fire in you when you suffer a loss. You just learn so much from losses as well. That’s where all the growth happens. You’re forced to sit back and think about things a bit more. I know Sandy’s that type of person as well. She has the heart of a warrior. She has an amazing mentality, an amazing mindset. It’s whoever wants it most on Saturday night. I think Sandy is just an all round complete fighter.
“She’s an amazing fighter, an amazing boxer. She’s so versatile. Her jab is fantastic, her counterpunch is fantastic. I’ve shared rounds and rounds of sparring with her. She’s a huge reason why I won the rematch against Chantelle Cameron as well. Just an amazing part of my preparation and I’m always so grateful for those rounds that she gave me. So she’s just an all round complete fighter. I think she when she’s on form I think nobody is going to beat her on fight night,” Katie Taylor said
