Matt Brown: McGregor Won't Fight in UFC Again

Matt Brown does not see Conor McGregor fighting in the UFC ever again.

McGregor’s UFC career has suffered of late. His last UFC fight was in 2021, when he lost to Dustin Poirier at UFC 264. McGregor also broke his leg, compounding his misery further. That was his third defeat out of his last four fights. Since then, McGregor has been trying desperately to secure this next fight. He was set to face Michael Chandler at UFC 303 on June 29. However, McGregor pulled out after suffering a broken toe. He then announced he was fighting Dan Hooker on February 1. However, the UFC did not make an announcement, leaving McGregor waiting longer.

The Notorious was then found liable in a civil sexual assault lawsuit after Nikita Hand won her case. Dana White has said that if McGregor ever fights again, it would likely be later in the year. However, reports recently indicated that McGregor was in talks to face Logan Paul in a boxing exhibition. That would be McGregor’s first boxing fight since 2017, when he lost to Floyd Mayweather.

Brown Reacts

A Paul fight would generate a huge amount of money. McGregor has suffered financial losses due to the lawsuit. The Hitman video game franchise and Proper No.12 Irish Whiskey have cut ties with Conor. A Paul fight could help compensate McGregor, with a view to then fighting in the UFC. But Brown did not envisage McGregor back in the Octagon.

“Does he fight at all? He probably gets in a street fight, I’ll call that one. Does he fight Logan Paul? That’s a good question. I don’t know. I’m going to say I don’t know. “Does he fight in the UFC? I think that’s a clear no. Does he fight outside the UFC? I think it’s always possible for him to fight outside the UFC, if the UFC allows it. [And] I don’t know if the UFC is going to get behind it. I just don’t know how those deals are going to play out. But does he fight in the UFC? No, and I’m going to leave it at that. He won’t be in the UFC. I don’t think he’ll fight in the UFC ever again,” Brown said

What’s Next?

The UFC also has a major decision to make. McGregor has historically been seen as the UFC’s biggest star. The Chandler fight was on course to produce a live gate of over $20 million, which would have been a UFC record for that time. The tickets for the press conference also sold out in the first nine minutes. But whether McGregor is still as popular is anyone’s guess. Brown felt that a Paul fight would do more for his brand.

“To be honest at this point in Conor’s career, I think I would be more interested in seeing a cool buildup to a…Logan Paul thing. The situation Conor’s in, the way he lives now, the life that he has, it’s more interesting, I think,” Brown added
