Jorge Masvidal is fueling rumors of a UFC return, as talk of a showdown with Conor McGregor increases.

Rumors are emerging the two could face off at the UFC White House event on June 14, 2026. Masvidal teased that he has “level-five access” news coming within the next ten days. While he stopped short of naming McGregor as his opponent, Masvidal confirmed he is back in heavy training for a major opportunity.

The buzz surrounding a McGregor-Masvidal clash has intensified following Dana White’s pivot away from the Michael Chandler fight. White recently dismissed the Chandler matchup as a thing of the past, leaving a spot for someone to face Conor.

For Masvidal, he has plenty to prove. He retired from the UFC following his loss to Gilbert Burns in April 2023. That was the fourth loss in a row. While official matchmaking for the White House card isn’t expected to begin until after UFC 324 next week, Masvidal’s ten-day timeline for “confirmation” suggests a deal may already be in the works.

“Some of it is like level-five only access, so I can’t really say too much, but I am training for something big. You never know, right? Give ’em what they want, not what they expect. I can say it’s some big news. I have some fight news coming soon, and it’s very big news. I can’t deny or confirm any of that right now, but maybe hopefully soon, I can. “… Like maybe 10 days, something like that, I should have more confirmation on it,” Masvidal said

The Approach

Masvidal is likely to target McGregor’s body early. By using “Thai clinches” and knees into the ribs, he aims to deplete McGregor’s gas tank. He will also likely use pre-fight press conferences to rile up Conor into a verbal trade-off where Masvidal’s can try and get into his head. Having also lost to high-level grapplers like Gilbert Burns and Kamaru Usman, Masvidal will not face this against Conor. Since McGregor is a striker first, Masvidal can sit down on his punches more comfortably.

McGregor’s strategy hasn’t changed: he is a “front-runner”. His goal will be to end the fight early Against a durable veteran like Masvidal, McGregor must be patient. McGregor’s greatest weapon remains his straight left hand. Masvidal often keeps a high guard but can be susceptible to straight shots down the pipe. McGregor will look to use his “lead hand” to parry Masvidal’s jab and create the angle for his signature counter-left. McGregor used a “long-range” approach in the Eddie Alvarez fight, staying just out of reach and sniping with 1-2 combinations the moment his opponent overextended. He will try to replicate this.
