Jorge Masvidal hit back at Colby Covington after the latter filed a civil lawsuit seeking over $100,000 in damages stemming from their 2022 street altercation.

Covington filed the complaint in Miami-Dade County, citing physical and financial grievances resulting from the attack outside Papi Steak on March 21, 2022. Covington is seeking compensation for “bodily injury, disfigurement, and mental anguish,” claiming the assault has caused a permanent “loss of enjoyment of life.”

The suit also seeks to recover the cost of a $15,000 Rolex watch that was reportedly smashed during the scuffle, along with mounting medical expenses from the last four years. Sources close to Masvidal indicate he has no intention of settling out of court, as Masvidal hit out at Covington.

“For the most part, I get along with everybody. Everyone that I fought, it’s like I’m cool with them afterwards. If I see them, I share a meal with them. I’ll fcking hang out, talk some shit. “But just one rat-ass motherfcker, it’s literally a rat. I shouldn’t even say his name because he’s already suing me. Colby Covington’s the only one I really never messed with like that.

The UFC

Outside of the lawsuit, Masvidal is eying a return to the UFC. Masvidal reportedly turned down a lucrative slot on the Ronda Rousey vs. Gina Carano Netflix card this May, choosing instead to focus all his efforts on a return to the UFC Octagon. Masvidal hasn’t competed in MMA since April 2023, when he announced his retirement following a decision loss to Gilbert Burns at UFC 287.

The defeat was his fourth in a row, capping off a difficult stretch that included two title-fight losses to Kamaru Usman and a grudge-match defeat to Colby Covington. Masvidal’s most recent competitive outing was a 2024 boxing match against old rival Nate Diaz, which he lost via majority decision. Masvidal stated that he needs a minimum of four to five months of training to prepare for a welterweight return.

Next Steps

“We’re talking. They owe me some money for some cleaning bills and shit, too. We’re definitely talking. We’ve been talking for a minute. It’s just we haven’t landed [a deal]. I love [the UFC] to death but they make you work for every single thing. It’s not quite where you want it to be a lot of times. We’re going to get something done though.

“I’ll be honest with you, if they give me the Leon [Edwards] fight, I’ll get to [170 pounds] tomorrow. I would like that fight. He doesn’t have nothing scheduled. [After the three piece and a soda], now it’s the whole buffet I’m going to hit this motherf*cker with. I would love it.

“He had said he wouldn’t fight me because I had like three or four losses in a row. I think he’s got like four losses in a row and by KO. That’s low hanging fruit for the UFC. Give me what I’m asking for and we’re good to go,” Masvidal said
