Marquez Tells Ryan Garcia To Fix Himself - 'He's Crazy'

Juan Manuel Marquez has urged Ryan Garcia to stay busy in the gym after he expressed worries about the boxer.

Garcia is banned for a year after testing positive for Ostarine after his win over Devin Haney. He was banned for a year, meaning he cannot box until April 2025. The Haney result was turned into a no-contest, leaving Garcia with plenty to ponder. During his time away from the ring, he has shown that he struggles to stay focused.

The WBC banned him after he made a series of derogatory comments online directed towards African Americans, Muslims and Christians. His ex-wife, Andrea Celina, also accused him of breaking into her house without permission. This was after she reportedly banned him from seeing their kids due to substance abuse. While Garcia has said he will enter rehab, there are worries about whether he will return to boxing. Marquez told him to focus on training.

Marquez Reacts

“Every fighter thinks differently, and certainly what he’s doing is not good for him. Ryan Garcia is a good fighter. But I don’t know what’s happening with him right now. He needs to return to the gym. [And] he needs to keep training. He is a good fighter. I don’t know. He’s crazy at this moment. Money makes you do crazy things. It makes you go crazy,” Marquez said

Oscar De La Hoya has also expressed some concern towards his fighter. Ryan is one of Golden Boy’s biggest stars. His fight with Gervonta Davis sold over 1.2 million PPVs, while the Haney fight did over 500,000 buys. He is also being linked with several big fights. Vergil Ortiz Jr., Terence Crawford, Errol Spence Jr. and Sebastian Fundora are just some of the names being mentioned.

However, that all depends on Garcia keeping in shape. During the Haney fight, it was clear that Garcia was gassing out between the rounds. There are worries that too many distractions from Garcia’s camp are impacting his career. His extensive social media activity is a catch-22. Despite growing his fanbase, with over a million followers on X and over 10 million on Instagram, it distracts Garcia from staying in the gym. De La Hoya admitted he was perplexed by Ryan’s online behavior.

Garcia’s Mindset

“Then I pick up the phone I see Twitter I see Instagram I’m like oh my gosh, my gosh what are you doing, what are you doing? A lot of money, good-looking kid, just like me. I’ve given him advice. I’ve told him, ‘Hey look out for this, look out for that.’ But, Ryan’s Ryan. I have no idea what he’s thinking or what he’s doing,” De La Hoya stated

But there are hopes that Garcia will run things back with Haney. Ryan stated that the Ostarine levels in his system were not enough to enhance performance. Meanwhile, Haney is confident he can beat Garcia on a level playing field. If both boxers stay fit and healthy, fans could see the rematch next year or beyond.
