Madrimov Vows To Beat Crawford - 'You Will See'

Israil Madrimov is confident of beating Terence Crawford on August 3.

The two boxers face off as Madrimov defends his WBA Junior Middleweight Title. Madrimov picked up the belt after stopping Magomed Kurbanov in his last fight for the vacant title. The belt was freed up after Jermall Charlo was stripped of it, as he became a Champion in Recess. Madrimov’s record stands at 10-0-1. He has seven knockouts to his name, making him a heavy-handed fighter. The Uzbek has an extensive amateur record of 350-20, subjecting him to all styles.

Crawford arrives into the fight with the best win of his career. He stopped Errol Spence Jr. to become the first Undisputed Welterweight Champion of the four-belt era. It was also the second time Crawford became undisputed after his junior welterweight feat. But he has been out of the ring for around 13 months. Meanwhile, Madrimov’s last fight was around a year ago. Heading into this fight, Madrimov fancied his chances.

Madrimov On Crawford

“Experience-wise, yes, I have ten professional fights, but it’s a high quality. All ten were WBA fights. All ten were twelve-rounders against stiff opposition. I have more than 200 International amateur fights. So overall, over 300 amateur fights. I have experience fighting everyone around the world.

“The ring will show everything. On August 3rd, you will see everything. We have some things we’ve been watching. We’re not going to talk about it right now. With a lot of fighters, they’re losing before they even step in the ring [with Crawford]. They’re already kind of on the downside [of their careers]. With me, I’m mentally strong,” Madrimov said

Nevertheless, Crawford has one of the best boxing IQs in the game. He showed this to great effect when he boxed Spence. Much like Madrimov, who is a lot bigger than Crawford, Spence was too. However, during the fight, it was Crawford bullying the bigger man. This was shown in the second round when Crawford got out of the clinch and pushed Spence back. He would also drop him three times and take his biggest shots before a ninth-round stoppage.

Madrimov’s Aim

While there were suggestions that Spence was weight drained, this was the same Spence who had beaten Yordenis Ugas, Mikey Garcia, Kell Brook and Shawn Porter. However, both boxers are undefeated, meaning someone’s 0 has to go. Madrimov knows a win makes him one of the best fighters out there, given the huge scalp he would get. But with Crawford’s plans of becoming a three-weight undisputed champion with a Canelo fight on the line, Madrimov will be looking to spoil the party.

“I know what I’m capable of. I know this fight is important for me, my family, for my legacy, and the whole country. I’ve got a whole country [Uzbekistan] on my back supporting me. I’m definitely coming out there to do everything within my power to get the victory. My only thoughts are positive thoughts. I know what I’m capable of,” Madrimov added
