Kongsuk Fairtex Learns From His Mistakes & Outlasts Joachim Ouraghi at ONE Friday Night Fights 72
Kongsuk Fairtex didn’t have the perfect plan to beat Joachim Ouraghi Friday night at Lumpinee Boxing Stadium. But Kongsuk realized after the first round he had to change up his attack. Kongsuk’s willingness to adapt would end up turning the fight around.
Online boxing news shows that Ouraghi controlled the fight with his aggression during the first round. Ouraghi waded forward and fired off combos aggressively to gain control of the fight. Kongsuk, a two-time Lumpinee Stadium Muay Thai World Champion, decided to focus on being more effective with kicks during the second round.
Kicks that Kongsuk landed on Ouraghi’s body took a toll on his cardio. Once Ouraghi’s body was softened up, everything that Kongsuk wanted to do about the attack opened up.
Kongsuk continued to work the body and throw extended combinations. The buildup of these attacks allowed Kongsuk to control the fight during the third round. Ultimately, the judges sided with Kongsuk, who improved to 64-17 in his career. It was a difficult loss for Ouraghi, who has now lost two straight in ONE Championship.
Theptaksin Takes Drama Out of Result
Theptaskin Sor Sornsing didn’t want to let Jelte Blommaert think their 126-pound catchweight Muay Thai battle would be close. While MMAfighting latest news showed many fans thought this fight would be one where both sides would have their moments to be successful, that was not the case.
Theptaksin dominated Blommaert from the opening bell. His volume and power shots caught Blommaert off guard. Throughout the first two rounds, Theptaksin used his precision, power, and speed to build a quick lead.
But that didn’t mean Theptaksin was ready to be done when the third round started. Instead, he aggressively hunted for a knockout. He didn’t end up accomplishing his goal, but he would come away with a decision victory to pick up his 75th career win.
Pentor Never Gave Up
When a fight goes to the scorecards, how judges see who won can come down to the narrowest margins. Pentor SP Kansart Paeminburi couldn’t have felt good after the first round of his fight with Thongsiam Lukjaoporongtom. Thongsiam was more aggressive at the start of the 142-pound catchweight fight.
But as the fight wore on, Pentor found some openings to attack. Thongsiam, a former Rajadamnern Stadium Muay Thai World Champion, kept the pressure on. The two fighters went back and forth throughout the fight.
At the end of the third round, it needed to be clarified as to who won. However, Pentor’s adjustments throughout the fight won over the judges.
Petnamkhong Puts Lookkwan Away
Petnamkhong Mongkolpet didn’t want to involve the judges in his fight with Lookkwan Sujeebaeekiew during a 122-pound catchweight fight. Late in the first round, Petnamkhong landed a devastating combination to ensure that didn’t happen. With Lookkwan standing with his back against the ropes, he landed a stiff combination that culminated with a hook.
The hook sent Lookkwan sprawling to the canvas. There was no need for a 10-count from the referee. Lookkwan struggled to get back to his feet and was immediately on shaky legs.
The referee chose to waive the fight off with 18 seconds left in the first round.
Muanglao Leans on His Power to Pick Up Important Victory
Muanglao Kiattongyot knew he had an advantage in power over Songpandin Chor Kaewwiset. That gave Muanglao the confidence to not worry so much about what was coming back at him. Instead, Muanglao focused on the offensive attack he brought to the ring.
That confidence did hurt Muanglao at certain points of the fight. Muanglao continuously chased Songpandin around the ring, looking to land his power shots. However, the looping punches also left Songpandin with some space to operate.
Songpandin connected on a stiff shot toward the end of the fight round, leaving Muanglao a little dazed. However, that didn’t carry over to the second round. Muangalo launched hard hooks and uppercuts that snapped back Songpandin’s head.
The aggression put Muanglao back on track to win. In the third round, Muanglao continued to land power shots, putting him in a position to win the fight. Muanglao won the favor of all three judges and picked up his 51st career victory.
Injury Interrupts Light Heavyweight Showcase
With a rare light heavyweight bout set to take place in Lumpinee Stadium, the crowd was excited about what could happen. But as is often the case with heavyweights, anything can happen, and the result can be a little disappointing. Alex Roberts rushed forward from the opening bell to engage with Beybulat Isaev.
Isaev received a stiff punch, but he wouldn’t have to worry about taking any more shots. During Robert’s initial charge, MMA latest updates show that Roberts tweaked his knee, leaving him unable to get back to his feet.
Isaev, a WMC Muay Thai champion, improved his career record to 24-6.
Haggerty Doesn’t Sweat a Knockdown
Freddie Haggerty wanted to make his mark in the ONE Championship strawweight Muay Thai division. When Kaichon Sor Yingcharoenkarnchang sent the 19-year-old to the ground, he realized that he was in for a real war. Haggerty drew first blood.
He used a body shot and uppercut to send Kaichon to the canvas. But Kaichon wasn’t easily discouraged and returned the favor a few moments later by flooring Hafferty with an overhand right. Haggerty and Kaichon continued to try to put each other’s lights out.
Haggerty would get the job done with a right cross in the final seconds of the first round.
