Kompet Fairtex Seeks Fifth Straight Win During ONE Friday Night Fights 75 Main Event
Kompet Fairtex was never going to flounder for long in the ONE Championship. Yes, Kompert disappointed some supporters by losing his debut fight with the organization. But online boxing news showed that Kompet’s credentials meant he would have more opportunities to rebuild his reputation.
During Kompet’s career, he was a two-time Lumpinee Stadium Muay Thai World Champion. Since losing to Prajanchai PK Saenchai, Kompet has piled up four straight wins and will look to add one more to his total when he faces off against Omar El Halabi in a 127-pound catchweight fight.
El Halabi is known as a pressure fighter but hasn’t produced a knockout during his first three appearances in ONE. Lacking the power at the top levels to put away his opponent could come back to haunt El Halabi. Kompet is comfortable when fights go the distance.
During Kompet’s four-fight winning streak, he has only produced one knockout. This fight could be one with a lot of action, but still find a way to get the judges involved. Kompet and El Halabi’s fight will be the main event in a 12-fight card, which will feature 10 Muay Thai battles and two MMA fights.
ONE is about to head into an interesting string of events. The promotion is set to come to the United States in September, but will still have a string of fight night events leading up to the big card in Denver. Here’s a look at some other action on the card.
Petgarfield Jitmuangnon Looks to Extend Run
Petgarfield Jitmuangnon fought twice in three months after making his ONE debut in 2023. The latest boxing news online shows that Petgarfield was comfortable fighting at that pace. He won both of his fights, but the 22-year-old decided to take some time off before returning.
This weekend, Petgarfield will look to pick up his third win in the organization against Buakhiao Por Paoin. Buakhiao has won two of his three fights in ONE. He has yet to produce a knockout and is making his third trip into the ring this year.
Former Champions Set to Square Off
Khunsuek Superbon Training Camp and Mamuka Usubyan are two featherweights with similar paths to ONE. Both men were former Rajadamnern Stadium Muay Thai World Champions. When each fighter made the leap to ONE, each won their debut fight.
The question now becomes which one can be more successful moving forward. Usubyan and Khunsuek both won their first fight in promotion via decision. As their careers go along, each man will seek to add to their resume.
Carving out a name in ONE can be difficult because of the amount of fights it takes to earn a championship opportunity. But the good thing about ONE’s approach is that fighters have plenty of opportunities to pick up strong competition.
This is a good test of where both of these fighters are at right now.
Petnakian Made Strong First Impression
Petnakian Phuyaiyunan, 29, reached ONE Championship at an older age than many of his contemporaries. But sometimes, having a little bit more life experience before reaching the top of your profession can be helpful. During Petnakian’s first fight in ONE last May, he picked up a knockout victory in the second round.
Anyone looking at MMAfighting latest news will see that Magnum Sor Sommai didn’t have the same experience. Magnum, 26, lost his debut fight by knockout. Magnum will be focused on getting in the win column quickly.
De Oliveira Looks to Continue Hot Streak
Robson de Oliveira has started to figure things out for his MMA career. Over the past few years, de Oliveira has strung together a four-fight winning streak that has him spotting a 5-1 record ahead of his debut in ONE. De Oliviera has shown off his strong grappling credentials during his time on the regional scene.
While De Oliviera doesn’t have a lot of career experience, his opponent this weekend has fought even less as a professional. Rahil Baghirov will make his debut in ONE after having only three professional fights under his belt.
Baghirov has finished both of his opponents.
Dongak Seeks New Home
Torepchi Dongak wants to find his spot in ONE. After initially trying his hand at kickboxing, Dongak suffered a decision loss and attempted to try his hand at MMA. The results have been decidedly mixed so far.
Dongak has compiled a record of 1-1, but is coming into this fight with some momentum. Dongak won his last fight with Hiroto Massuda in the first round via knockout. Dongak’s next fight won’t be an easy task for him. He will have to take on the much more experienced Ryosuke Honda.
Honda has put together a 13-4-1 record as a professional. During Honda’s time in ONE, he had mixed results. He has won two of his three matches in ONE.
Young Man Sees Another Important Victory
Petphupa Aekpujean barely has enough life experience to understand many things in life. But Petphupa’s strong skills with striking has led to him getting a lot of good opportunities. Petphupa, 18, made his debut in ONE back in April.
While Petphupa didn’t win his debut fight, he didn’t seem out of his element either. Petphupa lost his first fight via split decision. Petphupa felt comfortable enough to take another fight just a month later.
Petphupa won the fight via decision against Longern Sor Sommai.
Here are the rest of the fights on the card not mentioned above:
- Muay Thai (127-pound catchweight), Pansak Wor Wantawee vs. Dieselnoi Liamthanawat
- Muay Thai (133-pound catchweight), Promrob Looksuan vs. Payakmekin Sit LuangpeeNamfon
- Muay Thai (lightweight), Chanajon PK Saenchai vs. Denis Burmatov
- Muay Thai (126-pound catchweight), Brazil Meakchat vs. Takuma Ota
- Muay Thai (atomweight), Shir Cohen vs. Francisca Vera
