Khabib Pays Off His Debt To The Russian Authorities
Khabib Nurmagomedov has reportedly paid off his unpaid taxes to the Russian government, which amounted to over $3 million.
Two Russian publications, Mash.ru and RT, claimed that Khabib’s paperwork showed some irregularities, meaning he owed the Russian state money. His Eagle FC MMA Promotion and other businesses were being investigated. It is claimed that the money he earned was invested in Turkey and the UAE. As a result, his bank accounts were frozen. The former UFC Lightweight Champion had over a $800,000 car collection, which the courts wanted to sell off to raise the funds.
Khabib’s Struggles
Meanwhile, Khabib’s house in Dagestan could also have been sold, with Conor McGregor reportedly in the running to buy it. But now Telegram channel ‘Shot’ says the money has been paid off, and Khabib’s cars are now his, putting an end to the matter. That rules out the possibility of Khabib returning to Octagon. There were suggestions that fans could see a comeback with a possible McGregor rematch, which would have generated a huge purse.
Khabib already beat McGregor in 2018 when they faced off at UFC 229. He won via a fourth-round submission, setting the PPV record for 2.4 million buys. After the fight, a brawl broke out between both camps, and the bad blood continued. McGregor has never been the same fighter since then. His last fight was in 2021, when he lost to Dustin Poirier at UFC 264, taking his record to three losses out of his last four UFC bouts.
McGregor’s Return
He was meant to face Michael Chandler at UFC 303 on June 29 but pulled out with a broken toe. Now, there are conflicting reports over whether he will fight this year. Dana White initially said McGregor would not, but now he has left the door open. Meanwhile, Chandler also remains hopeful.
“You can imagine after I said that, Conor was blowing me up, I’m definitely fighting this year. When we get to a point where we are setting up a fight and I believe a Conor McGregor fight is gonna happen, I will announce it. As of right now, I do not believe Conor will fight this year. Conor’s saying he wants to fight in December, we’ll see how it plays out,” White said
“There’s no reason why Conor can’t fight this year. Obviously, you know I can fight this year. I think it comes down to scheduling. December, I think, makes a lot of sense. Obviously, November you’ve got MSG which is kind of booked up and before that you’ve got Abu Dhabi. December is that big pay-per-view card to cap off the year, Chandler vs. McGregor.
“It makes a lot of sense. Dana, as much as we love him, he’s also said some things that were just absolutely false in press conferences and whatnot. But that’s his job. Sometimes his job is to give you information, sometimes his job is to give you misinformation. Sometimes, saying that the fight isn’t happening this year, means that it is happening this year,” Chandler stated
