Khabib Bashes McGregor’s ‘Controversial’ Paul Hughes’ Comments

Khabib Nurmagomedov has lashed out at Conor McGregor after the Irishman’s controversial comments towards Paul Hughes.
Khabib’s comments were made following the recent fight between Usman Nurmagomedov and Paul Hughes at the Road to Dubai Champions Event. Usman was given a controversial victory despite most of the MMA community having Hughes as the winner. Hughes could have easily said something controversial. But he showed a lot of respect towards Khabib, telling the fighter that he is not like McGregor, who lost his cool.
McGregor’s Outburst
“I’m not like this other guy, I’m my own man, I’m not like this other guy. The media try and make us like not respect, but you know that I always have respect [for you],” Hughes
“Lick my ass. I’m farting in your face. Foreign hairy hole licker. Yup the real Irish, these vermin. Get that flag off you, you little know what you are. Too right, YOU’RE NOT. Body of work unmatched. Today I employ over 200 people in the country of Ireland alone, Certified,” McGregor stated
McGregor and Khabib have a long history after their feud escalated before the UFC 229 fight. Khabib responded by submitting McGregor in the fourth round to end one of the most bitter rivalries in UFC history. McGregor responded to Hughes’ comments by stating he was not an Irishman. Those comments did not sit well with Hughes, who was disappointed since he had looked up to McGregor. Khabib has now come to Hughes’ defense as he hit back at The Notorious.
Khabib Responds
“You are a real Irishman [Hughes] and not a rapist and drug addict like this [man],” Khabib stated
McGregor’s comments are not going to help his reputation. He has suffered immense damage following his recent civil sexual lawsuit. Nikita Hand accused him of sexual assault and won, as McGregor was ordered to pay her damages. McGregor is also facing another lawsuit on similar terms after an another alleged indecent following an NBA Finals game in 2023.
Hughes Reacts
McGregor’s fight career has also stalled. He has not had a UFC fight since 2021. That was a loss to Dustin Poirier at UFC 264. He suffered a broken leg which has kept him out since then. He pulled out of his comeback fight against Michael Chandler at UFC 303 after suffering from a broken toe. Meanwhile, reports of an exhibition against Logan Paul do not appear any closer. Hughes’ following comments also show that McGregor has lost respect amongst his peers.
“I kind of just realized, it’s actually one of the worst possible things that you could say to a fellow Irishman in terms of how deeply insulting it can be to someone personally. As I said, I don’t take it deeply personal, but people from my area certainly, certainly will. Where I come from, Derry, Derry has a very tumultuous history when it comes to Irish history. It’s a very, very important place where a lot of important things has happened and it would be incredibly and deeply insulting to a lot of people where I’m from to say that we’re not Irish,” Hughes said
