Khabib Backs His Cousin Usman For Greatness – ‘He’s One Of The Best’
Khabib Nurmagomedov says his cousin Usman Nurmagomedov will prove why he is the best in the world.
Usman has shown his credibility, having become the Bellator Lightweight Champion. While that may have been the case, he was suspended for six months after failing a test. This occurred after his fight with Brent Primus where he beat him at Bellator 300. His manager, Ali Abdelaziz, defended his fighter, stating that it was prescription medication rather than a steroid.
“Usman was prescribed medication for an illness he had. It’s NOT an anabolic steroid, EPO, HGH, etc. Nothing enhancing. He will rematch Primus and get back in the tournament,” Ali Abdelaziz revealed
Usman was removed from the Bellator Lightweight World Grand Prix but was not stripped of his title. He will defend his belt against Alexandr Shabliy this weekend. Shabliy is in impressive form. He has won his last five fights, beating the ex-champion Patricky Pitbull. Khabib expects his cousin to achieve great things, having trained with him and his deceased father.
Nurmagomedov Reacts
“Usman Nurmagomedov is the future of this sport. Usman is young generation from our gym. Him and me was trained by my father, and now I train him. We spend years and years together in gyms, like, more than 15 years. He always was, like, so competitive. That’s why he’s still undefeated, that’s why he’s Bellator lightweight world champion and will defend his title. Next fight he will show and he will prove why he’s one of the best in the world right now,” Khabib said
Having Khabib in his corner will do wonders for him. The Russian has helped UFC Lightweight Champion Islam Makhachev become the best P4P fighter in the world. Khabib was in Islam’s corner when he submitted Dustin Poirier in the final round at UFC 302 to defend his UFC Lightweight Title. Khabib also had a glittering career, retiring undefeated with a 29-0 record.
Khabib’s Legacy
He had big wins against Poirier, Justin Gaethje and Conor McGregor. Nurmagomedov only retired after the passing of his father, saying he had promised his mother he would not fight again. He retired at the top of his game, making him one of the best to do it. Usman is 17-0, with one no-contest, showing he has developed into a top fighter. He has already envisioned Khabib giving him the belt, just as he helped Islam do so.
“I love this place and the people around me. I hope Khabib is going to put the belt on me,” Usman added, emphasizing the emotional connection between the two cousins,” Usman stated
