Keyshawn Davis Seeks World Title Against  Denys Berinchyk

Keyshawn Davis has the chance to make history by winning his first world title against Denys Berinchyk

Davis will face Berinchyk on February 14 for the latter’s WBO Lightweight Title. It will take place at the  Hula Theater in Madison Square Garden, New York. Davis enters the fight in impressive form after having stopped Gustavo Lemos. He dropped him in just the second round in a comprehensive performance. He wanted to fight Gervonta Davis next. But Tank will fight Lamont Roach Jr. on March 1, meaning a fight was impossible.

But if Keyshawn gets a world title under his belt, it could happen later down the line. The fight would be for a unification, meaning it is even bigger. Tank has also said that he will retire this year, with the aim of fighting three times this year. That means Keyshawn knows he must put on a big performance to try and put the pressure to make the Tank fight.

“Yes, I’m ready for that. He can’t [mess] with me, bro. [He] and his coach know that. Them [people are] worried. They want me to move to 140, to get out of 135 so I can be too big and don’t gotta fight them [anymore],” Keyshawn stated

Berinchyk is the champion after having picked up the vacant title against Emanuel Navarrete. He won the fight in a split decision after Navarrete had moved up from 130 pounds. Berinchyk will back himself to win, given that this is Keyshawn’s first-ever world title shot. The winner knows they will have a lucrative rematch at the very least. Both men were ready for the test.

Reaction

“Keyshawn Davis has everything it takes to be a modern-day great, but he must first defeat an unbeaten, determined Ukrainian champion in Denys Berinchyk. This has all the makings of a lightweight classic in New York City. Xander Zayas is facing a tough, undefeated kid in Slawa Spomer, an excellent test for our Puerto Rican star as he nears a world title shot. And with Vito Mielnicki Jr. facing unbeaten Irishman Connor Coyle, we have a sensational tripleheader in store for the fans at The Theater at Madison Square Garden and watching live on ESPN,” Bob Arum

“I’m not going to make any big statements or shower my opponent with compliments. I’ll just say one thing: Don’t relax, dude! It won’t be an easy fight for you,” Berinchyk said

“This is the opportunity I’ve been waiting for. Denys Berinchyk called me out, and I answered. A new era in the lightweight division begins on February 14th. Be there in person or watch it live on ESPN because what I’m going to do must be seen to be believed,” Davis said
