Keyshawn Davis 'Refuses' Shakur Fight!

Keyshawn Davis refuses to fight Shakur Stevenson as the pair remain close.

The two boxers spent significant time together at Top Rank, with the pair labelled as one of the best in the lightweight divison. But Shakur announced his departure from Top Rank to sign with Matchroom Boxing. That raised speculation they could fight each other. Keyshawn is coming off an impressive victory against Gustavo Lemos. He stopped his opponent in just the second round. It was impressive since Lemos had gone the distance in the fight before against the IBF Junior Welterweight Champion Richardson Hitchins.

Keyshawn was then targeting the biggest fights. He mentioned Gervonta Davis in his post-fight comments. However, Davis was set to face Lamont Roach Jr. on March 1, ruling that fight out. And yet, Tank has now said the fight is off, raising speculation over whether Keyshawn could be next. At the same time, there were claims that Keyshawn was close to a deal to box WBO Lightweight Champion Denys Berinchyk.

This would be for February 14. A title makes a Keyshawn fight against Shakur more likely. Shakur defends his WBC Lightweight Title on February 22 against Floyd Schofield. A win makes unification fights possible, with Keyshawn being a name if he can get a belt. However, Keyshawn rejected that because he only wanted to box Shakur in an exhibition.

Keyshawn On Shakur

“They keep asking me to fight you. We can do an exhibition; that’s what we can do. We can go YouTube style on these dudes real quick. Who is not going to watch it? They’re still going to watch the exhibition. They’re still going to watch it. We go exhibition on these fools when the time is right, and I’m going to let you know when the time is right.

“You’re going to be like, ‘Yeah.’ “We’re going to [do an] exhibition…We’re about to clean out the [lightweight] division and move up in weight. How mad y’all be? Man and Shakur will beat everybody up. We just beat everybody, move up in weight, and never fight. Then, do it all over again at 140. That would be funny. Beat up all y’all favorite fighters. They going to be as sick as hell,” Keyshawn said

That has the danger of holding up the lightweight divison if Keyshawn grabs a title. Shakur has previously said that he does want to become undisputed at 135. However, Keyshawn’s comments may suggest that he has eyes on moving up to 140 pounds. He is big for the lightweight division. The only other big fight for him at 135 is against Gervonta Davis. Tank has said he will box three times next year. That is part of his wider plan to retire from the sport in 2025. Tank has the WBA Lightweight Title, setting up a potential unification down the line. But for now, Shakur is not on Keyshawn’s hit list for his next opponent.
